We have a 2000 340 Sundancer and just picked an inflatable dinghy with Merc 6hp four-stroke. I'm curious how, where most people store the outboard when the dinghy is up on Weaver Davits (in near vertical position) while we are underway. The dinghy did come with a swivel transom mount that allows us to rotate the outboard into a vertical position when the boat is up, but not sure how well it will work. Seems it may put a lot of strain on the dinghy transom. Looking for temp mount, storage options for the motor. Thanks.

i can't do this on my boat but I have friends with larger boats that store it under the cockpit sitting. I have a David system and have my dink on the platform horizontal and leave engine on.

I have a Yammy 6hp 2 stroke and store it in the port side transom locker for the time being. I'll mount it in the stern rail once I get the davit setup sorted for the inflatable.

If you don't already have it, you should get the Weaver Arm, which mounts to the transom and carries the weight. The transom can take the weight, its the tubes that will be over stressed if you don't have the Arm. See pictures:

If you don't want to have to take your motor off and on every time you raise or lower your dinghy, check out a SeaWise Davit System at: http://seawisemarine.com/ It's the slickest things since sliced bread.

OH, BTW, I just happen to have one that's off my 330 Sundancer and it's for sale because I can't use it on Beachcomber. I'd make someone a HELLUVA DEAL ON IT.

I have a Davit system from trickdavit.com it allows me to keep the boat and motor on the swim platform. Very easy to use.

I have the weaver David system and I strap my 2.5 zuki down on the bow. On my 300da that's pretty much the only option other than hanging on the transom or keeping it on the inflstable. I'm still deciding what to do but I'll likely go with the swivel bracket and transom arc.

For my 15 hp 2 stroke, I use a St. Croix outboard motor bracket by St. Croix. It has a receiver on it similar to the Weaver quick release plates, so it comes off easily when the motor is on my RIB.

From the St. Croix website:

Thanks everyone for the great tips. I appreciate all.
