My dipstick has a hose directly over the dipstick - how the heck do they expect you do check the oil with the hose in the way???

I wonder one additional thing maybe someone can chime in.....
When you do get the dipstick out ( mine is a threaded yellow number) and then wipe it off... when you re-insert to take the reading do you just push it in to the top of the threads --or screw it all the way down and then remove? I think the reading obout .25 quart difference.... anyone have an opinion?

Also, on my Kholer 5e. There is nothing directly above the dipstick, The j- shaped coolant return tube is well up and out of the way... a pic of the front of the gen would be most helpful!

I concur, screw stick in all the way to take reading.

The yellow oil fill cap has a dipstick on it.

I think the manual for mine says to take the reading WITHOUT screwing the threads in. Unscrew, wipe off, insert with screwing in, remove and take reading. I will try and find it in the manual and report back but my manual is on the boat, will not be at boat for a week or so. Anyone have the manual handy?

I know the tranny's are checked without screwing it in. I check the genny the same way.

Kohler 5ECD manual states to reinsert dipstick to take reading. I believe that means screw back in.

I have a 4 ESZ and the manual says, DON"T screw it in to get a reading.

My manual says "Do Not Screw in Dipstick when checking oil".
A lot of good that does Ziek, he can't even get to it. So, how does he even change his oil? Somebody made a mess of that setup. What is that black hose anyhow? I wonder if he can remove some of the mounting studs and rotate that GenSet a couple of inches to get access. And then bolt it down in the new location. Possible? As new as that boat is, shouldn't that be a dealer or SeaRay fix?

Not sure what I'm looking at but I believe I have the same gen. that you have. the only hose above the dipstick is a water hose about 1" in dia. that I just push in to get some clearance to remove dip stick.

That hose looks to be too big to be a raw water intake?

You have yourself a bit of a problem. You can only reach in, shove the cooling hose aside and remove the dipstick. Filling will require a long tube attached to a funnel. You must be very careful not to overfill. It is crazy how different our ERs are. With all the potential outdrive problems, having not to contend with these day to day issues with the v-drives, I'm happy with the outdrives.

I agree, I'm waiting for an answer from the Dealer...
