We have a stainless steel insert in the rub rail. At one spot only, just above the swim platform and less then a foot long, the rub rail has visible rust.

Its on the surface, not deep into the metal.

I have no idea why this one spot is rusting. No other part of the boat has any rust, not the bow rail nor anywhere else. I don’t get it.

I tried wax then cleaner wax then polishing compound. I’m considering rubbing compound next but wanted to see what the fellow members of the Club Sea Ray board suggest.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Bronz wool. I believe there are 3 coarses, I use the very fine and it cleaned up my spotlight to look like new.

Ditto on the 000 (very fine) bronze wool. I've used it on my Harleys chrome with great results. it not only removed the rust but also ground in dirt.

bronze wool or SOS pad, followed by another coat of wax
Good luck

Try some Comet Scouring powder on a sponge. Works great. Also, Bar Keepers Friend. Might as well run over all the rails while your at it. Al W.

Pardon the multiple replies, as the reply went into a "DEBUG" screen with unable to connect, but posted the replies anyway.

Don't know what that's all about.
