I plan to pull my batteries and take them home for winter storage.
How do I close the engine compartment after I pull them?
I've heard about a device that, on one end, plugs into the 12v adapter, and the other end has clips to attach to the battery.
I can't find anything like it online.

Any ideas? Thanks - John

how would you jumpstart it if the batteries were dead and couldn't open the hatch ??

Hi Jim,

This sounds like a rhetorical question - yes, I should know this; I'm a new boater and learning new things all the time.
I did see online about battery posts near the battery switch in the cockpit - is this what you are suggesting.
Any help is appreciated.

would be a good thing to look into

Worst case, you could pull the "emergency pin" on the end of the ram then lower the ram and hatch manually. Just be extremely careful and have someone else help. The hatch is heavy. I have had to open a hatch on a 260 with dead batterys this way in the past. It is accessed through an access port under the stern seat cushion. There are several washers as well so careful not to drop the parts.

I have also heard of the CLA adaptors but have never seen one.

you might already have the cable on the boat. open the ER and locate the trim pump for the lift cylinders or the 12v motor for the lift rod. See if there is another set of wires in addition ot the main power. Follow them.
If there are no other wires, get some wire and install a new feed in addition to whats there and run the wire to a convenient spot above deck.mount the wires to 2 bolts in a plastic mount to attach regular jumer cables..

I do not know if it works on your boat, but when my boat is winterized, all the batteries are disconected. In the spring, I plug in the power cord to an outlet in the boat yard, and up she goes.... My dealer told me this. And it works..

On my boat there is a cigarette lighter near the dash. You could plug a charger into that.

On the 260 the hatch is motorized?

If it is motorized this is how to do it. Thanks Scott!!! (Sfergson727) He bailed me out when I was looking a at a used boat with dead batteries. I just plugged in the jump box I almost always have with me into the cigarette outlet at the helm. Now I'll carry one whenever I look at boats. LOL

I made my own adapter with clips on one end and a 12v cigarette lighter style plug in adapter on the other, and 5 ft of heavy wire. On my 330 it reaches from the dash 12v socket over the seat into the top battery compartment to connect temparaily to one of the starboard bank batteries. Then the hatch lift works with the batteries disconneccted frm the main cables.

My boat came with the plug that you hook to a battery and you plug into a 12 volt outlet.
