...on my '04 260da? Is there a way?

Also, how do I check my waste tank level? I know there is a display in the head (empty, 1/2, full), and I've seen it lit before, but I don't remember what I did to light it

To check the fresh water level you'll have to look in th ER and see it yourself. No indicator.

The waste tank light is on when you have the Key to the toilet in the On position in your head

Don't trust the indicator in the head, unless you know it works.

Easy to visually check, turn on your bilge lights, open the hatch, stick you head down there and look to the starboard side. Rock the boat a bit and you should be able to see the level in the tank.

The fresh water tank is in the middle, forward of the engine (under you as you lay on the deck with your head in the bilge)

Trust the indicator in the head. As far as "fresh" water is concerned, there is none. Except when you fill the tank you will hear the difference as the tank fills. Reminder, always add water purifier when you do. If you don't use tank water on a regular basis, empty tank and fill with fresh water

Interesting. On the 03, fresh is port, holding is middle. I don't trust the holding gauge either, I use the quoted method to check.
