How do I access the battery???? 2009 Sea Ray 175 Sport.. Full bench seat

Thanks David but we can now access the battery though the compartment which is above it.

As far as replacing the battery does anyone have any suggestions??

Currently has an Interstate Marine Battery 27M-XHD...800CCA-1000MCA

Greg

I have that same battery in my 2009 175 Sport, except mine is a group 24 battery (24M). It's the original factory battery and is still going strong. The only charging it has ever had is from the engine when it is running. I was just planning on buying another one of these when the time comes, since it has done so well.

Interstate makes a good battery. I went to Optima because mine are under that heavy floor to check. No checking with optima's.

Bill what is the difference between the 24 and 27? Funny yours is not the same as mine? It is quite heavy. This battery may not be shot as I have it on the trickle charger and is up to 12.6

Blake I read about the Optima and it looks good

The group size just means the physical size of the battery. So my group 24 is a little smaller physically than your group 27.

This is pretty cool. I have never seen this particular variation of that model. It's of similar design (sunpad/bench seat area) to the 185/195 Sport, however, they didn't have those port/starboard compartments boxed off like yours are. In other words, their side compartments went straight down to the floor where the battery is. Nor did/do they have the removable back rest (which is nice!)

I can think of two ways to easily modify this for the future. First idea... don't put the carpeted side panels back on. Second idea... pull the staples out from the carpeted/removable "floor", cut the board down to fit INSIDE the carpeted sides and reattach the carpet. I suppose hindsight is 20/20, but this second way is probably the way it should have been done originally.

Greg - I just used a free Photobucket account for posting these - it makes this process easy.

Nice rig. I agree with Dennis. It appears to have been assembled incorrectly from the onset as the access appears as though it would be pretty direct otherwise.

Beautiful boat, Greg. My battery is in the exact same place with the same looking cutout, only I just pull up the seat cushion to get to it. I am with Dennis. I would just make a covering for that opening that rests on top of its edges and call it done. You could store stuff on top of it, under the folding swim pad panel. And then just lift off the panel whenever you wanted to get to the battery.

Greg... are you 100% positive that you can't just pull that false-bottom board out (w/o removing the side walls)? I assume that's why that hole (white) is there. Often times when things fit together like this, especially with carpet, they do fit kinda tight. Same deal on the port side?

Bill/David you guys have fantastic boats..

Dennis would my boat be a special order or something???and I will go with your second idea Dennis and cut the board/bottom to fit. No way it is just tight btw

I don't have any old order forms to go back and check, but that sounds about right. I imagine it was "X" $$ to get that option and we probably thought, at the time, "Why make an entry level boat even more expensive". Worked out well for you, though! Looks nice.

Got a new problem..put the battery back in. It's all charged up showing 12.7
Well I went to start the boat and nothing!! Checked the horn and stereo and nothing. Checked the connections..negative to negative..positive to positive along with 2 wires to positive nut..negative was last connection..checked the run/stop and made sure it is on run..NOTHNG
Any ideas??
