I have a 1998 37 EC, I found a slip on craigslist, a dockominium located on the same dock as I was at last year. The owner was charging $2500 less than I was paying to rent from the marina. He has a 38' slip. The boatyard says my boat is too big for that slip, ( without looking at it, measuring etc.) What's up with that?

According to Sea Ray Specs, your boats over all length is 41'4" and the beam is 14'2"

Cut off the swimplatform and you should be fine. Most marinas do not want the boat to go past the last pile more than a foot. Hampers the fairway use for other boats and makes it tough for your neighbor closer to the seawall to enter and exit.

If it is a close call based on your length and the marinas guidelines allow, try bow first. That way you can shave off a foot+ though that is all based on the language of the lease agreement and the way your dock / finger pier is set up.

Good luck!
