After checking, my 12 volt system has me confused. My batteries go down in just a few hours when on the hook. I replaced both house batteries and had the same problem. Figuring I had something pulling the system down, I stated checking amp drain with a DC amp clamp. What I found is that the entire House is being powered from the starter battery. The two parallel wired house battery is only connected to one engine. The boat is a 91 350 gas. It has the original charger. From what I can see, everything appears to be wired in its original position. The batteries can only go in one position.

I have now checked with Sea Ray customer service about the problem. They said that in the early 90's they installed 3 deep cycle bateries and used only one to power the house. Does this sound familar to anyone?

Sounds like time to reconfigure your battery banks.

Switching the batteries how?

My boat is wired to a starter battery and house battery are on the same switch. 1 BOTH and 2. #1 is my starter, Both is well.. both, and 2 is the bigger house battery. When on hook, I leave batteries at 2. I also have the fridge set to 110v power. The battery charger I have and have had are strong enough enough (10 amps) to offset any draw the boat has on the battery. (esp since I upgraded to LED lights).

I cant imagine what could cause your batteries to drain so rapidly while plugged into shore power (esp while connected to a charger). That leads me to believe that the batteries could be bad and not holding a full charge, or the charger is not charging correctly.
