I love the new boat, but am surprised (OK, disappointed) in the house battery bank. Essentially, I've got two group 31s to power the house DC panel and start the port engine and another 2 Group 31s to start the starboard engine. I'm assuming the rationale is to make sure you can always start at least one engine if you run down the house bank.

Well, we do a lot of anchoring out and I don't really want to run the generator all day. So the question is, has anyone taken any steps to upgrade the house (port) battery bank? I'm thinking two 8Ds oughta cover me. There is plenty of room for them down there.

Of course, I will give the factory arrangement a shot... no reason to get rid of two perfectly good batteries, but I had a dedicated house bank of four Trojan T-125 6V golf cart batteries on my old boat and that worked great.

Any thoughts on this?

I have the same battery set up as you have. We also love to anchor out, minus the gen. I had some concerns at first so I added one more 31 to the house set. I don't have very much room for additions let alone anything like 8d's.

So far I have never had any problems with my current set up. Normal anchor time for us without the gen is 10.5 to 12 hrs. Then for some reason or another the gen is on. You would think that after a day in the water kid's would have forgotten about playstation :smt001

My galley fridge and cockpit fridge are the 2 big users. Don't know if this helps, but it has worked for 3 summers. Nice boat by the way.

Thanks River Rat! I guess we're in the minority with this anchoring-without-the-generator thing. But I'll take 10-12 hours. We'll see how it works!
