I love the new boat, but am surprised (OK, disappointed) in the house battery bank. Essentially, I've got two group 31s to power the house DC panel and start the port engine and another 2 Group 31s to start the starboard engine. I'm assuming the rationale is to make sure you can always start at least one engine if you run down the house bank.
Well, we do a lot of anchoring out and I don't really want to run the generator all day. So the question is, has anyone taken any steps to upgrade the house (port) battery bank? I'm thinking two 8Ds oughta cover me. There is plenty of room for them down there.
Of course, I will give the factory arrangement a shot... no reason to get rid of two perfectly good batteries, but I had a dedicated house bank of four Trojan T-125 6V golf cart batteries on my old boat and that worked great.
Any thoughts on this?
