Horn

Well if that's the case:

Yep that’s mine. Wire to horn is broken somewhere behind headliner in cabin.

Funny horn story time. First boat first summer wife on bow with the hook as I pulling down slip row. See my buddy, blow horn she sitting in front of. Scared the shit out here, suddenly she is swinging the hook like a ball bat over the windshield trying to take my head off as I’m ducking and weaving. Friends still laugh about that.

My ultimate goal is a bad-ass air horn connected to the steering wheel horn button of my new wheel.

But like PL said I'm fine with a hand-held for now. It does the job.

You know how to show a lady a good time

I like to keep em guessing at who tooted. Maritime Enterprise near us just added Kahlenberg K-380 dual low tone horns, compressor, Tank, & Relays. Nothing subtle about it. The gas dock attendants will know we are co
ming!

Just picked up this from one of my students. I’ll mount it on my radar arch.
Now to come up with a compressor. I’ll see how well the little vane compressor on the OEM horn works but doubt it will be satisfactory.

Looking to replace a defective horn on my 2006 290 sundancer. Would like a better sounding horn than the OEM. Anybody have suggestions??

Thanking you in advance!
Fwiw - I had a new horn on my list too. I read every horn post here and YouTube. I started wondering If I needed access from behind the horn as the mounts on the pictures of new horns got me worried. Anyway - I read somewhere somebody sprayed wd40 into the grill which loosened up corrosion and the horn worked.
I tried it last night and it seemed to work. The horn is now working. Might be worth a try....

Great to know! Thank you again. I live in Ohio so it’ll be another week or two before I can get it in the water but it will be the first thing I do.

Right? I can never find the right switch quickly.
Sometimes you don't want to find the switch quickly.

Funny story about switch layout. I do a lot of salmon fishing over the summer months, and we leave the dock really early. So in late July that means Saturday 6:00AM or earlier.

I am very aware that the sound of a pair of 454s firing up at 6AM is not what someone wants to hear right next door. So one weekend I knew my immediate neighbor was in his boat Friday night, so I decided to move the boat over Friday night to our main launch/service dock that is a bit further away from most boats, and right on the main fairway out to the water. Being courteous and all.

So 6:00AM, still dark out, we get on the boat and ready to quickly fire up and leave the dock discretely. Or that was the plan anyway.

Those of you that know the late 90s 330DA's will know the switch layout for the wipers. There is heavy dew on the windshield. So before I fire up the big blocks I want to be completely ready to cast off, so I turn on the wipers. But in the dark, I hit the switch just to the right of the starboard wiper. THE HORN!

And I blast 125db of dual trumpet splendor into the cool dark 6AM morning air. My buddy with me erupts in laughter and I slink out of the marina hoping no one scrambles out of their berths and sees which idiot it is. I guess it was a good thing I was not close to my slip, or it would have been obvious it was me.

If you wanted a fairly simple air horn, something like this link might be an option. It uses a very small on-demand air compressor. It's about the size of one of the little soda cans - smaller than a regular 12oz can. Doesn't take a lot of power and you might be able to reuse the existing switch / wiring.

https://www.amazon.com/Powder-Coated-Marine-Trumpet-Compressor/dp/B00HS4QLWM/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2O8G7IG4K7H&dchild=1&keywords=marinco+air+horn&qid=1618581321&sprefix=marinco+air,aps,165&sr=8-4

On Amazon a question response shows it as 20 amps. My factory horn circuit had a 5 amp fuse. No way to use factory wiring except to trigger a newly wired relay.

It’s pure junk. Three years in a row it’s started going bad towards end of 1st season and was dead at start of next season even with direct 12V on bench. The fabric behind the grill decays also. Too bad Amazon reviews aren’t given after you use the product for as few months. Day one I would have given decent review also.

Good to know, thanks for letting us know. Sometimes people do come back later on and edit their review but most people can't be bothered.
