Find a way to Honor ALL our VETS this Weekend and Fly the Stars and Stripes.

This may bring a tear to your eye.

There are thousands of Americans out there that don’t have a clue as to what our country’s veterans have done for us, both in the past and currently it’s an embarrassment to our President!

A friend sent this to me. I had no idea that the song existed. This is an important piece of music, and, an important piece of history. I think everyone should hear it. So if you feel like I do ......send it on.

Turn on your sound and follow along with the words of the song by scrolling down.

I will send this on.

I have been to the wall with my parents and they looked up friends from high school who never made it back.

My dad spilt a lot of blood in Vietnam. He has 4 purple hearts and none of them were from thorn bushes. When I was a little kid I was amazed at the scars from the bullets and the stories he would tell.

His last day in Vietnam his commanders insisted on more kills, it almost killed him. He was shot in the stomach which brought him to his knees then a claymore mine was set off in front of him. The shot in the stomach actually saved my dads life, the person behind him was not so lucky, did not die but… My dad could have left the first time he was shot but he refused to leave his men. He still has pieces of the claymore mine in his skull and shoulders and had recent surgery on the shoulder that was shattered.

In the movie Forrest Gump Lt. Dan is from Company A, 2/47th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 9th Infantry Division. My Dad was First Lieutenant of Company A, 2/47th Infantry, 3rd Brigade, 9th Infantry Division, same as the movie. Nothing in the movie happened in real life.

I will honor all Servicemen in the Armed Forces and will teach my kids to do the same.

Tell your Dad thanks for his Service, I was called in for the draft Aug 67 but my ex was pregnant my son so I didn't have to go.
My son is now a Lt. Col. w/24 years in the USAF and just came back from Afghanistan. I have a deep love for our men in uniform and will do what I can to help them out and give them my support.

Thanks for the thread. I'm a Vietnam era USAF vet with 7.5 years service time. My overseas time was spent at Elmendorf AFB, AK. Never did get to NAM but did do a short TDY to Greenland in support of the ski-equipped C130's that support the Dew Line sites across the northern border.

Preparation for Memorial Day, May 31st ,

Keep it
moving, please, even if you've seen it before.

It is the

VETERAN
,
not the preacher,

who has given us freedom of religion.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.

It is
the
VETERAN,
not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is
the VETERAN,
not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.

It is the

VETERAN
who
salutes the Flag,

It is
the

VETERAN

who serves
under the Flag,

ETERNAL REST GRANT THEM O LORD,

AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM.

I'd be
EXTREMELY proud if this email reached as many as possible. We can be very
proud of our young men and women in the service no matter where they serve.

God
Bless them all!!!

Makes you proud to be an AMERICAN!!!!

YOU, make it a great day!

I really don't know what to say other than it's unfortunate that most people look at Memorial Weekend as a three day weekend for partying. The same goes for Independence Day.

Last weekend a marina neighbor from the next dock over came by. We have waved & shouted hello many times, but this was the first time we really talked. When I learned he was I vet I stood up shook his hand and thanked him. He, as most do, said it was his pleasure & that he'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Now the sad part..... He said it had been a long time since anyone stood up, looked him in the eye & thanked him."

My challange to all is to find a member of our military, past or present, and thank him or her. It's the least you can do &......... "I'm quite certian they've earned it"

Here is something that is going on in my neck of the woods sounds like it will be pretty good. I wish I could go but I am going to Utah to see my Grandson Graduate H.S.

Hi All -

A very special event is happening tonight, May 26th, from 6pm - 9pm. It is part of a 6 day event in Carpenter Park in Carpentersville, IL <351 Carpenter Blvd> (intersection of Lord Ave & Main St.) It's called "The Healing Field"
map:
http://www.mapquest.com/maps?name=Carpenter+Park&city=Carpentersville&state=IL&address=351+Carpenter+Blvd&zipcode=60110&country=US&latitude=42.11144&longitude=-88.28175&geocode=ADDRESS&id=263255646

It's going to be spectacular.

1,748 flags will be placed in the shape of a Cross. Each flag represents a POW/MIA from the Vietnam War.
Tonight, at 6 pm, the flags will be placed on the stakes.

Each flag carries a replica dog-tag for the POW/MIA which it represents. As the soldier's name is read off, the flag is carried to it's position, put in place, and then saluted by Military personnel. Since there are 1,748 flags, many, many volunteers are needed to help with this portion of the event

The flags will be up from 5/26 - through Memorial Day on 5/31.

(I think?) more events for "The Healing Field" will be planned through Memorial Day weekend.

A helicopter will be flying overhead to take pictures.
(I think) a flyover by the US Air Force is planned for Sunday, May 30th.

More info, pictures, etc.. will be posted on the Algonquin website (as received.) www.algonquinteaparty.com

For more info/ details, contact Joe Miller @ 224-629-8062.

You are welcome to purchase an American Flag, along with a replica dog tag of an individual POW/MIA for $40. Cash & credit cards are accepted, too.

I believe this is a traveling "Healing Field" across the USA. More info/ details will be posted on the website.

I heard over 100 volunteers came to help assemble the flags on Sunday, May 23. Amongst them were a group of students from Jacobs Middle School, families, Veterans & countless other people who have our Vietnam POW/MIA's in their hearts.

Sincerely,
Julie

ps: I heard there is a full time team of people in Vietnam who recently recovered the remains of 2 of our POW/MIA's.

A must See Video ...

I am now passing this on for you to watch. Its not enjoyable, it is riveting! When you are done pass it on, too. I think it's important... If you are a vet, I say, Welcome home brother.
