Well, we waited too long to verify we were going to have the boat and didn't get a slip reserved for this weekend. Anyone know of any open slips within 6 or so hours from Indianapolis for a 26ft with 30 amp power? Guess we will stay on the hook somewhere if we can't find something.

We have a lot of open slips at my marina... Close to all the islands.... I am sure middle bass and maybe Kelly's might have something.... If early you can get into PIB on B or C dock. Port Clinton, Ohio if you want to make that drive.

Come on up to Winthrop Harbor in Lake Michigan. Place is half full so you can have 2 open slips. South to Chicago is a short day trip. Or North to Racine or Milwaukee (with Summerfest going on). Large launch ramps and plenty of room to park your truck. Or launch in Indiana and cruise up.

Weekend weather is looking good. Lake's been calm past few days.

Very tempting. But, I am afraid the Great Lakes are out of my league, yet. I have not navigated anything that big. Not certain I will have my Chart plotter up and running. Just got it in the mail yesterday and started the install. Was intending to finish it on the water. It is one of my limited options, though.

I was stationed at "Great Mistakes" while in the Navy. I know the area on land around there pretty well. But, not been on big water ever. Very leery of solo navigating the Great Lakes for the first time. If I had a lead boat, I would probably try it. The guy that own the boat before me didn't know what he was doing and got caught out in 6ft waves on Lake Michigan and his wife made him sell it. I don't want to be that guy.

Not to worry. You're just cruising the coast. Never out of site of land or cell phone. And you don't have to go that far. My slip neighbor cruises up to Kenosha (maybe 10 miles) and anchors off the beach for the day. Others will head up to Racine for lunch. You're never too far from shelter. You just have to keep an eye on the weather. And with the holidays there will be bunches of boats out there. Several other winthrop guys on here, maybe they'll chime in. Whatever you do, good luck and have fun.

Well, I was all set to head your direction and dive into the learning curve. Then the wife poo-poo'd it. She wants to go to the same tired old flooded lake we have been going to for three years. Aaaand, we will be on the hook the whole weekend because there are zero transient slips there. Only resident and annual. SMH

While you still have the trailer boat, (see what I said there, LOL) you should explore the coasts of Michigan. We did that for 3 seasons before we got tired of trailering and got a permanent slip on Lake Michigan. It is only 2.5-3 hours up to the south end of Lake Michigan and well worth the drive. 31 is a pleasant drive up.
