I have a '99 40DB. My boat mech says there is no way he can get to that filter to replace it with out losing 40 pounds or removing the exhaust from the port side Caterpillar. Any one have any secrets on this?

I do NOT have an answer for you but I've heard it's a nightmare on the 400DB. There are many 400DB owners here so you should be able to get some help. You may want to re-post this question with the boat model in the title - might attract more attention. Good Luck.
