Hi all,

I am experiencing problems with a 2009 280 Sundancer. Hot water relief valve sticks & this results in the holding tank emptying within about 10 mins. Has anyone ever experienced this problem before ?

Regards

Paul

WHAT?? Not sure what you are saying but if you run water for ten minutes straight it will be empty, I think you only have 26 gallons.

Relief valve on the hot water heater? The water would be draining into the bilge if so. Are you sure it's set in the proper position? Pull up/out on the lever to open it, collapse it to close it...

You mean the relief valve is stuck open and thus is slowly draining your fresh water in the bilge and within 10 minutes it's empty?

I'm not sure that I am following you.

BTW... Welcome aboard!

I was confused too, wondering why anyone would want the contents of the holding tank heated. :smt043 To take it a step further, why would you want heated holding tank contents coming out your faucet.....yuck:smt043.

I assume he really means the water heater and maybe the associated fresh water reservoir. (I hope that's what he means, 'cause otherwise....double yuck)

Beyond that, I can't tell what he is asking or saying either.

:smt043Excellent :smt043

When I saw the Title I thought all the post were getting Deleted in "The Holding Tank"

If you stand on your head and re-read his post you might understand it.

I had to change my saftey relief valve on my water heater because it wouldn't seat. It didn't leak as bad as yours but it was enough to start the pump. As mentioned double check the stem that connects to the override handle, make certain the handle is down and the stem is pulled in by the spring.

If you have to replace it, you can buy these at an RV store and save some cost. Just make certain you get one that has the same temp setting (I think they are set to crack open at 150 deg F) You don't want one that has a lower temp setting than the thermostat setting on your water heater, or your problem won't go away...BTW, my relief has a discharge hose that vents the water via a hose to a through hull...not dumping it in the bilge.

If I missed the point of your question, then I'm as confused as the rest

OK to all you smart yanks !! yes I mean the freshwater (holding) tank not the waste tank & yes I mean the pressure relief valve on the hot water system.

Thank you for your replies. I will replace the valve & see how I go.

PS : Just off for a beer (no one drinks Foster's in Australia), then I am taking my pet kangaroo for a walk before I go & have lizards, goannas, snakes, wombats & koala bears for dinner !

Hope you guys can get your toilet water moving in the right direction !!!!!

Regards

I am late getting here but wanted to leave a couple of thoughts. I have had to replace the relief valve twice on my 1999 270DA because of it leaking slowly out the discharge side. In checking I found out SeaRay calls for a different relief valve for the heaters in their boats than what comes on the heaters you buy off the shelf. They use a valve with a lower PSI rating. You can buy the same valve from S/R for a few extra dollars than the ones with a higher PSI rating at the big box stores. It is your call. Lowering the electrical temp setting may work but the engine will warm it up to 180 degrees while you are cruising. Usually once they start leaking you have to replace them. Cheers to you and a Happy New Year/
