It seems as though there are several members on the board that have had a total hip replacement. I was already member of that group, but, on 4/16 I had my second total hip replacement. I worked out at the gym for about three months prior to surgery which I believe has helped the recovery process. I have been on a cane for several days and the staples come out on Tuesday. And it won't be long after that until I'm ready to drag my boat north again for another extended cruise/adventure. Modern medicine is really incredible. I am very thankful for what we have available to us to insure that we have best possible quality of life. :smt001

Have to agree, modern medicine is marvelous! A lady from our club has had both hips replaced and her and her husband are now cruising the Caribean on their 50' trawler! Years ago that would have been impossible for her. Good luck with your recovery which sounds as if it's going well. Enjoy your next adventure!

Anyone get Xarelto for their anticoagulant? Used to prevent blood clots after surgery.

Anyone get Xarelto for their anticoagulant? Used to prevent blood clots after surgery.

My first THR was 11/06. At that time, my wife had to give me anticoagulant shots at home for a period of time. Also, I had the compression socks.

This time, no compression socks and the anti-coagulant shots were replaced with two 325mg aspirin every day.
Most important to keep surgery leg elevated above heart level to control swelling, along with ice packs on hip.
I have swelling well under control and am off of pain medication. Used same doctor as first time. His group does sports medicine and provide doctors for the Falcons.

Hospital involved, practices strict sterilization procedures. Night prior to surgery, I had to take normal shower and then 1 hr. later wipe my body done with anti septic pads. In pre-op, the next morning they went thru the steilization wipe down process again. That was a new procedure from prior operation.
