I have a 2011 Sea Ray 185 Sport - MerCruiser 4.3 TKS 190hp - Alpha one with about 140 ish hours on it. 2 out of the last 3 trips out my oil pressure peaked at 80 psi and stayed there for a while - 10 to 15 minutes but came down to between 40 and 60. First time out it went up while we were just getting started and about the time I was going to turn around it dropped down. Second time out no issues. The last time out it happed as we were 45 minutes into our trip, again may 10 minutes or so before it dropped. Hoping it's just a faulty gauge or sensor. I have a guy coming to check it out next Tuesday. I have off Friday and going to run water muffs on it to see if it will go up or not as I'd like to take the in-laws out this weekend. It had an oil / filter change last fall. Any thoughts or suggestions when I run it on Friday?

I would not be concerned with intermittent high oil pressure readings. The OP will be higher when the oil is cold. JUst change out the oil pressure sending unit and see if that fixes it or also clean all connections on the sending unit and gauge and see if that helps. I would be more concerned with abnormally low pressure as opposed to a little high.

Temporary high oil pressure usually caused by cold / thick oil. Once warmed up, drops to normal operating range. Even 50 weight will start high and drop down when warm.

What oil is in the engine now? If unknown. maybe another oil change using the Mercruiser oil and see what happens.

If it goes high and stays there, usually caused by a stuck relief valve in oil pump or a spun cam bearing.
