Hello and welcome to the board.

You didn't say which Sorrento you have and whether you have an OMC or Merc setup. You can download Sea Ray's prop charts at http://www.searay.com/boat_graphics/sea_ray_prop_charts/1987.ENGINE,DRIVE AND PROP MATRIX.pdf to check and see if you are running the right pitch prop for your setup. Based on your RPM and what I see on the prop charts for max RPMS (all higher than yours) the prop pitch might have something to do with it.

Welcome to the board.....

How are you measuring your speed???? GPS, Wheel, Radar....????

Painted bottom, clean bottom,???? Which engine/IO combo????

Need more details....

its a sorrento s-24 and it has a 260 hp i/o mercruiser i've tried carbs and it doesn't seem to be getting the rpms and i'm using gps and my speedo and the speedo is pretty accurate going by the gps

I just read your post in the classifieds forum where you are looking to trade to 21 pitch prop. That May gain you more speed, but it Will lower your max rpm. It may also kill your on plane time. But most importantly, you will be overpropped (based on your current max 4200 RPM) and therefor you will be overloading the engine. Overloading the engine can lead to some serious consequences.

May be time to start a new post in the engines forum for more feedback. Not everyone reads the Who's who.....

good luck....

According to Sea Ray's prop chart for your boat that engine should have 17 pitch props and should turn 4600 RPM.

yes i did have a 17 pitch prop with 4900 rpms and it only did 30 mph so i moved up to 19 pitch and i gained 5 mph at 4200 rpms. but i've been told i should be running at least 45 mph, and it runs good not missing a beat

I would say that 17 would be the correct pitch too but how often do you want to run WOT?
The best measure is fuel consumption and a good cruising speed.
If it's a carb'd unit are you sure your 4BBl is opening?
That slightly restricted RPM's may be that the carbs' aren't sucking the dino-juice as much as it sounds like you want
