After purchasing my boat in 2010 with a Raymarine RL80C I became a Club Jeppesen member which allows me to get one updated C-Map chip annually and allows me to lease any C-Map for a preposterous fee all for an annual membership fee of $89.

I'm headed for the Bahama's in May and inquired about leasing a Bahamas chart. You have to buy the chart for $149 and then depending on how long you keep it they refund the difference. For 30 days it's about 1/3 the cost of new. Remember this is a lease for 30 days.

I know this is a legacy product but the ridiculously high cost of the charts makes me want to throw the plotter overboard.

Anybody got a better solution than buying/renting through Jeppesen?

It gets worst after you own several cards. The only positive poit I can add is that C-Map cards have slightly more details in some areas over Navionics. I had both types on my 320 and C-map would give me all marinas in the area where navionics had non.

I'm not sure if this is a good option for you, but C-map had good trade-in program. For example, if you know tha you don't need card A for the season you can trade it in for card B with minimum expense. I've done it in the past and it worked for what I needed.
