Hows it going guys. Still working towards that first boat purchase. Was looking from input from the pros on this one, looks like it was very well maintained.

What would be some good questions to ask, and would I ask for a sea trial? Any advice would be great. We are a family of 3 right now, looking fwd to nice long weekends with family friends. Hope we can make it happen soon.

Absolutely get a sea trail. It's normal for sellers to not permit a trail without some "earnest money", so, many times, you'll want your surveyor there at the same time.

Does it have a generator? If not, is that going to be a problem for you (no AC away from the dock)? Does it have the full camper enclosure, and is it in decent shape? The canvas you can replace/add, but it's not cheap (figure a few thousand for a full camper set, if you want one). The genny; it's probably not worth adding.. It appears to have a windlass, that's another expensive option to add after the fact, so that's good.

For a reference, I recently bought a 2006 260 with 200 hrs, windlass, genny, AC in very good condition for 57K. The number this guy's asking seems a bit high to me.

Doesn't have paint, which means it wasn't stored in salt water. Was the boat freshwater only? If so, that's going to add some value.

Find out when the last time the current owner did:

Outdrive oil change
Exhaust inspection/change
Plugs/wires
Bellows

If the boat has full maintenance records, even better, get them and post up what's been done!

Do be cautious about posting this much detail; another member may be looking for just that. We had that happen a couple of years ago here; the poster was negotiating with the seller, posting every move, while the lurker actually negotiated and bought the boat. Get with a member who knows the vessel model well and PM them. Dennis aka: "Lazy Daze", or Todd aka "Nehalennia" would be a terrific source on a 260 and as they already have one will not be competeing with you to buy it.

I went on line to find what my new to me boat was valued at, you just need to know what all the boat has on it. Do be careful what you post, it takes just one shark. Everyone here has been the best, but be careful.

I'll sell you mine for $45 and you'll be happier with the ride and I'll bet mine runs better, handles nice and is cleaner, shinier. (BTW it has new risers, manifolds and coupler).

Ditto to the prior comments and that engine package doesnt command that price on that boat. There are a lot of threads on here about the power packages on that generation hull (05-08). Read up and make sure you sea trial with full passenger and gear load if you think it will meet your needs.

It also doesnt have electronics...plan on putting up 2 to 4 k for something decent in that front.

I know Todd and you can take what he says to the bank. If you don't mind the distance, I think you'll be happy with Todd's boat.

Friends of ours has a 2005 260 and love it. Their 350/260hp Bravo III is nice power for two to four people.....no more. I have to admit our 270 has spoiled me cabin size/layout.....it will take a 2005 300 to make me happy to go newer. Their 260 sips gas compared to our 454/BravoI but I do run faster when needed and hauling six people is no problem, Mike.

If 26' is a Motoryacht, then what the heck is 30'? Oh the power of advertising ;)

thank you guys for the advice. Im kinda lost.. it caught my eye bc it looks in great shape, but sounds like there is neg room..

I, too, will sell mine for 45, give or take. New manifolds, risers, elbows as of June 2011. Factory generator. Stored inside on a rack. Maintenance records/receipts included. Seawater transom hose was replaced 3 years ago and properly sealed - if the factory had done that it would have saved me a thousand for the cost of 50 cents worth of sealant.

By the way, in my opinion the pre-2005 260 had a much better layout. The cockpit had room for deck chairs, the transom seat could be folded up or down, the port seat converts to a sunpad, and the Admiral's seat faces forward. Also, mine has the full camper canvas, never used carpet (I like the wash and wear fiberglass), new as of June 2011 AGM batteries, and all of the original manuals.

I think the boat is fairly priced especially since it has a trailer. It doesn't have a generator and it doesn't have a chartplotter. It likely has camper canvas since it has the rear bimini but you need to ask that question. And don't forget the asking price is only the starting point. If I was looking for a 2005 260DA and was satisfied with the way the boat is equipped, I would certainly pursue it.

As a previous 2005 260 DA owner I have to say it's a nice boat for the money. Good on gas, great features, fast and reliable. The only thing I did not like is that the boat is too narrow for the length. It leans very easily and takes some getting used to. It was usually just the two of us on board, but when we had 1 or 2 guests join us, we had to position people for stability, plus move them forward sometimes to get on plane.

Good luck.

just be very sure that's the size you want...you may be wishing you went with a 280 or larger once you start using it a bunch. While that 260 is much larger than my 240, I sure wish I had a bunch more room and an inside dinette.

As a former 260 owner I agree with what a couple others have said...it's all about the beam. The 260 is a very nice boat, but I grew weary of trimming every time someone moved.
Just my two cents.

Ditto my 04 was Great..but any shift in weight underway=trim tabbi ng!

I like mine a lot, it seemed huge especially jumping to that from a 19' open bow. However I agree with Degree of F. I wish it was bigger, we are currently looking to upgrade and we have not had our boat for 1 yr yet. So make me an offer if you want!! :)
