Well it's been quite an interesting ride for the last few months. We still haven't sold the boat (she's still for sale, looking to downsize) and my OLD mechanic totally screwed us with our old Invader.
Any lawyers on here to give me some legal advice?
Long story short
We brought our Invader to our mechanic in October or November of 2011 with hydrolock. He told us that we could leave it there and he'd take a look and see what needs to be done.
Sept of 2012 we brought him a boat with a good engine to swap out and put into our Invader
We called at least once a month for an update and it was always the same story. We recently (March I think) started calling at least 2x a month, if not once a week to get progress. It's always been the same story, I'm getting to it this weekend!
I finally called last week and asked for an update and when he gave me the same line, I told him DO NOT TOUCH MY BOAT, STOP ALL WORK until I speak to my husband.
My husband went to talk to him today and inspected the boat. It was TRASHED by an animal. The headliner is torn to shreds, the foam between the headliner and the boat is torn out and used as a nest. The boat is infested with ticks.

I am BEYOND furious....the a$$hole had the nerve to tell us that he's got three hours into it....I WILL NOT GIVE HIM A DIME OF MY MONEY!!!

I wouldn't give him a dime either. I Also would have taken my boat back a loooooong time ago. I hope you can get it restored. Good Luck!

We have other projects that we're working on, and I have had him do other work for us. I trusted this man, who is also a friend of a friend, a brother of a friend....My faith in humanity has dropped yet another notch.
The boat that he was working on was our first boat and we put a lot of effort into it to bring it to life, and he allowed her to die a slow, painful death. I'm mad at myself for allowing it to stay there as long as we did, but, I trusted him.

Professional mechanics carry liability insurance for things like this. There is an implied liability on the mechanics part, as he would have charged you to do this work, so he is responsible for taking reasonable care and insuring a safe place to store your vehicle and/or boat. I used to own a gas station and things like this do happen from time to time.

Karen, he must have insurance. Is this what he does for work? Friends are friends...biz is biz!

P.S. It's good to see you here again

Just for a smile.....I didn't think Jersy girls said ya'll

Jersey girls, as a rule, do not say ya'll...BUT, it's better than the Philly version "youse guys" LOL

Now, I trusted this guy and I spoke with my gf that highly recommended him and she's mortified. I know it's not her fault, it's mine for letting it go as far as it did.

This is what he has done for a living for his whole career. He comes highly recommended from not just her, but a few Sea Tow guys. I guess his commercial business is more important than his lowly summer cruisers.

I spoke with my lawyer today and I have a plan in place. First things first, I have to go there and take pictures of the damage :(
Makes me sick....

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned....he should have learned that from his ex-wife....now he's got two pissed off women to deal with

I wish it wasn't me that it happened to! :(

Sorry to hear about this Karen, do hope you get it sorted ok. We had a similar issue when we lived in the Seattle area, a "critter" bit through some hoses on the Toyota (which was in the garage) that our daughter used to go to high school (it conked out on the freeway, smoke everywhere). And guess what, the dealer (this car was new) had to go back to Japan and have these parts imported specially as he reckoned no one (at that time) in the US had need to stock them. Strange things with animals eating stuff they shouldn't, do happen from time to time:) I can't believe he's refusing to fix it amicably with you, not a very reputable business man! Good luck!

If you need SeaRay time, drive down , bring pillows, leave the plates you bought home, and we can take Seahorse for a run. Cheap vaca for you and hubby

That would be galley wench,oh he wont like being called that.

Spoke to my lawyer. I am going to the shop today to take pictures of the boat and ask him, nicely, to call his insurance company and have them send out an adjuster. I am bringing my gf with me as a witness. I will then follow up with an email to him so I have a paper trail

This should be real interesting.
I'll post pics of her before we dropped her off at his place.....

I got some pictures today. He came out and wanted to know "what I was doing" and I said "taking pictures of my boat"

He told me his insurance won't cover it..that "acts of God and vandalism" aren't covered, that it's on my "work order"
I don't have a work order, everything was verbal
He couldn't tell me the name of his insurance company, but he did know that he has a $5,000 deductible (not my problem).
I told him to call his insurance company and get an adjuster out. I need to follow up with an email, but I can't find one! GRRR
Here are the pics I did get. The boat SMELLED UNGODLY!!!!!

Sigh...this isn't going to go easy.
