The tires on my trailer are starting to show some dry rot and i would like to get them replaced. the sidewalls say s78-14st, and they are "towmaster" brand, but i dont know what that means, or what size i should get to replace them.

Can i get just tires, or is it better to get tires and wheels together?

What tire is the best bang for the buck?

I saw that one, but i couldnt really find the info i need. I need to know what size tire to purchase first, then what brand is best (which that thread should help with).

nothing? any idea how to figure out the size i have or what i need? I found some loadstars on sale that seem to be the right thing, but im not sure. the boat dry weight is 2200, how much does a trailer weigh?

do i need radial or ply tires?

My suggestion would be to take a wheel off or trailer it round to a tyre depot. tell them what its for and they will sort you out.

You would need to convert those numbers and I would say the closest size would be 205/70R14. You can just purchase tires but sometimes it's worth it on trailers to replace the wheels as well if you have rust. You can usually find pretty good deals on packages - just be careful as the tires can be the cheaper offerings. You can get load range tires in trailer sizes so if you are concerned with weight or durability I would go with a Load Range D tire vs. a standard load. Here's a tire I'm considering for my rig and gives you an idea of load capacities and sizes available - there is also a dealer locater function.

i measured the stuff last night, and your right a 205/70 is about right, but its a 15in wheel. (bead to bead) I will call discount tire and NTB today to get quotes. academy web site doesnt have anything close to that size.

ST means "street tire" You want a trailer tire. Go to your nearest tire dealer and ask. You also have 14" tires and I would recommend getting as many ply in the tire as you can afford... 8, 10, 12 ply...

Right, ST is what you want though I believe it actually stands for Special Trailer at least that's what the tire guy told me when I recently replaced three trailer tires. You don't want passenger tires which are designed for more grip or traction but have too much sidewall flexing in them.

i called around and the cheepest place i could find was NTB. the tires there are about the same cost as what i could find online shipped so i think its good. $83 each, plus $11,99 for mount and balance. dropped it off at lunch and will go pick it up after work!
