Hello CSR folks, so I was able to take my baby out to the lake today, the weather was absolutely gorgeous and while the lake was low I was able to tie off to a cleat on the dock and pull the trailer out from under the boat, as she would not float off the trailer (bunks).

Anyway, after a couple of minutes I noticed that the temp gauge was rising up toward the 200^ mark (usually she is at approx. 170^ -180^)so I shut down the motor and let her sit for awhile I opened up the sun pad area and removed the engine cover to help cool her off. Then I started her up and headed back to the dock, as I was heading back I noticed the engine temp gauge heading back to the 200^ mark. I'm guessing outdrive impeller but if you guys think its something else, please chime in. Thanks in advance!!!!!

I forgot, any vendors have better pricing that you are aware off would be great or is this a purchase local deal??

Thanks again!!

Sounds like the impeller is bad, but could also be a stuck thermostat or something blocking your water flow.

Thermostat would be the easiest and cheapest place to start, I think its rare that they fail closed, impeller is a regular maintenence issue so its probably worth changing anyway, after that youre looking for blockages or engine water pump if you have one.
I would suspect impeller discintagration(sp?) after a long winter.

I called the marina where I purchased the boat and the owner (of the Marina) told me that he thought that the impeller was changed a couple months before I purchased the boat but said he would check his records to verify, so he got back to me and of course it was not done and so it was due to be changed, so I'm crossing my fingers that's all it was ................... will update this thread when I have the impeller changed.

UPDATE, so I pulled the outdrive water impeller and put in a new one, I then ran it on the muffs and viola, no more running warm!! The impeller that I took out looked to be in pretty good shape, I could read the part number on it etc., but the "blades" of the impeller were permanently curved whereas the new one had straight "blades". I'm guessing once the impeller blades take a "curved set" its days are done?? Anyway, I'm all ready for the water, thanks for those of you that chimed in with advice!!

Sounds like an easy fix, congrats and have fun out there! Still waiting for my first trip out of the season, the boat is ready now am hoping for Saturday. Right now looking like rain but hoping it changes between now and then...

so I went out on Lake Hopatcong today, the lake was very low, it was the very first outing since I changed the outdrive impeller, so this was the real test even though she was run successfully on the muffs. Anyway I tie off to the jetty and drive the trailer out from under the boat as the water was too low to get the boat off of the trailer the conventional way, it seems this technique is getting to be a way of life now.

So I back my baby out of the launch area put her in forward and she starts vibrating, I back off the throttle and try again, lots of moaning and the boat is vibrating. Move throttle forward some more, no vibration but no more speed either, I start getting angry going through a mental checklist of things, I also noticed that the speedo was not working. I was getting angrier so of course I tried a couple more times getting the boat going all to no avail it felt at times like a slipping transmission on a car. I finally thought that I should pack it in get my baby out of the water and get to wrenching to figure out what was going on.

So I turn her around and start heading back to the jetty and realize I have to maneuver around a ton of seaweed and grass in the water, so I look over the side and sure enough I can see that I am surrounded be weeds and grass. So I turn the engine off and trailer trim the outdrive and walk to the back of my baby and viola!!!!!!!!!!! the outdrive is mired in weeds and grass. So I pull approximately a 5 gallon bucket worth of weed and grass that was wrapped in and around the outdrive and prop. I then lowered the drive and trimmed her back up using the trim button and headed back out to the "Middle" pond as slowly as I could, Once I got to the "Middle" pond I noticed that the water was deeper because I could not see any more weeds and grass. So I cut the engine, trailer trimmed her and cleared the weed and grass then trimmed her all the way down, started her up and BINGO up on plane on my way to her 42mph top speed, no more cursing, swearing now just all smiles. What a relief, I'm excitedly looking forward to this summer once more!!

All is well that ends well, she ran flawlessly, although I thought that I had to exert a lot of energy to turn the wheel though she is equipped with power steering, but I'm still excited ........................ I'll look at the power steering at some point in time!!

Happy boating all!!!!!!

Congrats, glad it was nothing major - have fun!
We are headed out early in the am for our first outing of the season, my Sport 190's second season!

Once the summer Millfoil (weeds) gets to growing our marina channel can be littered with it. We often get to the end of the channel, put the drive in reverse and give it a good quick thrust. Works wonders.

You might want to look at that steering issue sooner rather than later. The pump/belt will leave you stranded out on the water....never a good thing.

Thanks for the tip, the belt looks good so I'll have to dig further, I purchased my baby used and the steering was always a little heavy for having power steering so I never thought much about it. Also because the wife complained that it was too heavy for her to find piloting the boat fun I always looked at it as an opportunity to hog the piloting duties, lol
