Unfortunately, a week into the season I've found that my SmartCraft transducer is weeping/leaking. Well, actually it appears that the thru hull is the culprit, as both the blank plug and the transducer exhibit the same weeping from the same spot. The only reason I can think of for this is that the marina had the lifting straps right on the thru-hull as it's only a few inches ahead of the lift stickers on the hull.

As such I have to pull the boat to have the thru-hull replaced. The boat in question is a 2004 280 Sundancer, and I haven't yet found any mention of this thru hull or transducer in the parts diagrams for my boat. I believe the transducer is made my airmar, but can anyone help me with identifying the thru-hull or pointing me to a source that I can look this up? Would contacting Sea Ray be worth the time? or would this be a "generic" thru hull of a specific diameter that I would just need to measure?

Thanks,
John

I pulled part numbers for the manual for my boat. It may help you.

A "generic" transducer might not work out of the box because it connects to a plug on the engine. It has a connector unique to the Mercruiser application, so you'd have to get one that matches or be willing to cut and splice.

I have 2 numbers: the "Supplier" part number and the Sea Ray part number.
Supplier: 888828B2
Sea Ray: 1727450

The supplier part number corresponds to a Mercury part, but is likely OEMed by Airmar.

The parts manual lists it as "Mercury Smart Craft Tranducer, Nylon depth/temp, 10'. I believe the 10" aspect refers to the length of the wire. Here's info from my owner's manual. The wire diagram shows the order of wires on my harness; yours may be different.

The supplier part number corresponds to a Mercury part, but is likely OEMed by Airmar. A search for "Mercury Smart Craft Transducer" yielded several places to order.

I found this link to Airmar's guide for splicing tranducer cable wire to the engine / smart craft harness connector.

Found outer ring of smartcraft transducer on my boat was missing about one third. just ordered new one last week from marine max sea ray dealer for$124.98 said it will have plug on it.part number mm2620329 that's for 2005 should be same checked dealer yesterday said part on way said came from murcury warehouse in Wisconsin. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help guys, After speaking with my local dealer and a rep at Airmar, I think I have found the housing available separately from the transducer ($25 vs. $300)! As my transducer is working fine, this will be the route I go, just need to confirm the tag on the transducer in my boat to ensure that I purchase the correct housing. Also going to try to get new O-Rings for the blanking plug and transducer while I'm at it. I will update this thread/post once I have the P/N confirmed and parts ordered.

Can thru hull transducer be replaced while the boat is in water??

Yes, I was able to pull the transducer and replace with the blanking plug while in the water. It's a bit scary the first time, as you are effectively opening a big hole in the boat, but outside of the "geyser" that happens for a brief moment and you switch the plugs out, it's do-able. make sure the blanking plug is lined up properly, my thru hull has an "arrow" that aligns with a groove in the transducer and blanking plug.

To clarify, this can only be done in the water if you are replacing the transducer with another that fits in the same thru hull. If the size is different, you'll need to pull the boat to install the new thru hull and remove the old.
