HELP!! wet floor in aft cabin 350DA

Hi Ethan's Tank
I'm new to this forum and not yet sure of forum protocol. I found your post about "wet floor in aft cabin 350DA". I have the exact same issue as shown in K-Nuts pictures of mid-berth/aft cabin wood floor which shows it being wet where the floor meets the carpeted couch support. Mine also seems to be starting from the port side. My shower sump appears to be working and does not overflow; my AC pan is almost completely dry except for the little bit of water by the drain hole. I could not find a post with any resolution to this problem. I hope this post finds you and that you were able to resolve your issue. Thanks in advance.

Hey there, welcome to the forum

Mine problem turned out to be the shower diverter behind the shower wall. I took off the single shower handle and found one of the nuts were loose. It was a pain to find, but it definitely resolved my issue.
I had another similar leak the following year and it was the T fitting for the dirty sink water.

I'll post pics if I find them, hope that helps

Thank you so much for such a quick reply! I would have never thought of that. I was ready to try to pull up the couch to access the water tank, but as mentioned previously doesn't seem easy to get to. I assume the T fitting is for the sink in the bathroom?

The water tank is a PITA since its all screw in and all custom.
The pics above is the time I had to rebuild the T fitting. That is located behind the bigger fridge.

If you have a shower handle leak, that's easy to get to, just make sure you have silicone on hand to reseal it.

I also checked the AC unit. That is located on the port side area in the lower salon. Check the pan there, in case it's clogged and overflowing. That would be another area that is directly above where my little Flood was. I hunted this thing for a few months before I found it. Hope these solutions help.

thanks again I will definitely check these things out.

Did the leak from the sink T-fitting also wet the floor in the same place as the shower diverter, as shown in your first picture? I know it's getting late, so reply whenever it's good for you.

It ended up in the same area. I think because of the angle of the boat.
So, the shower thing was completely hidden...water just appeared.
The sink thing, I noticed the carpet wall under the head door was getting wet, and I'm thinking I remember seeing water flowing down the the hardwood along the wall and I traced it back to under the fridge, which had me pull the fridge out and found the broken fitting.

You mentioned in another post on September 21, 2014 that your s750 pump was working and the secondary bilge area had a pool of water. My question is, after you tightened the nut on the shower handle, did this also stop pooling of water in secondary bilge area or was this a separate issue. I ask this question because my s750 pump works well and the secondary bilge area is completely dry, so I am trying to compare our symptoms before taking apart shower handle. Either way I will check the shower handle, but just curious.

Mine original shower bilge pump was due to that box being old and the lid was not sealing, on top of the gray water from the shower was blocking up the sump pump. I replaced it completely, new box and new pump and it didn't have any more issues

Ethan's Tank,
Going to the boat tomorrow with a mechanic friend to try and find the source of this leak.
Of course the first place we will look is behind the shower handle. Did the diverter leak even when the shower was not in use? I only asked because I used the shower once this season and that was a couple of weeks ago. I did run the shower for a short time directly into the drain to clean out the shower sump maybe a week or so ago. So if I was to get lucky and it was the shower handle, it would probably have to be a constant drip.
thanks

From what I remember, I think the gasket was worn down, so there was a drip leak. I put blowers on it 24/7, so the wood was stained.

Hi Ethan's Tank,
Well, I took off the shower handle and got to the water tank (what a job!). Felt the all the lines as far as i could reach leading from the shower sump. removed carpeted panel under stairs to get a look under shower floor everything seems dry as a bone, dust included. Interestingly what little wetness I could get on my finger had a oily feel to it and tasted bitter (yes I tasted it!!!). Thinking winterizing anti freeze. This is strange because I flushed the system out late May , which tells me what ever leaked took almost 6 weeks to reach that spot. So I have a lot more investigative work to go. I want to thank you for all your great advice!

Hi Ethan's Tank,
Well, I finally figured out the leak! It actually wasn't a leak at all, it was a spill.
It was a "Damp Rid" bucket that had tipped over in the front of the boat early June.
There was no sign of any liquid reaching the aft cabin at the time. I wiped up the calcium chloride
crystals at the front of the cabin and threw out the bucket. As you know and now I realize, any leak or spill settles in that rear corner. It took 6 or more weeks for the calcium chloride to absorb into the wood and appear. It was the old taste test that figured this out. My boating neighbor was throwing a damp rid out and after tearing the rear of the boat apart, and ruling out a leak, that was the only thing I could think of that had ever spilled in the cabin. So I did a tiny tiny taste test and sure enough that was it!
So now all I have to do is survive sodium chlorite poisoning:):):)

Wow that's crazy, sorry to get you hunting all over your shower area. The things you learn troubleshooting all these issues!
