What was the difference in out of pocket cost versus the Marina need a new motor price?

The marina wanted to replace the motor before they even disassembled it to see what was wrong. It would not be a fair response to list cost. It was a lot less but it was repaired not replaced. Most machine shops will charge $200 + per head to clean, tank, surface, grind and lap seats not including any valves that need replacing, replacement heads are a bit more to buy and still need the valves installed in them unless you want to spend over $450 for one. Add to this the cost of a complete gasket set.
Most marina`s are charging around $110.00 per/Hr and no way are they worth that much or do they pay that rate to their mechanics.

Thats like asking how much to change a starter. Lets see using a typical I/O :
I can sit on the floor and remove the bolts to change it 2 hours
I can remove the exaust manifold and associated components to get access to change it 4 hours
I must remove the motor to change it 8 hours
Or I can just drop in a new motor

Good work. You are a stand up guy.

Bt is my hero. But before I pulled the boat I was charged $380 to change a thermostat and $650 to replace the impeller pump. They charged me 4 hours labor to do the pump.

An honest mechanic is worth his weight in gold.
