I have been searching for a while and need help choosing the right combination. I would like a radar, gps/chartplotter and sonar. Sea Ray did not do a very good job with the dash on the 280...IMHO...for installing electronics. Does anyone have any suggestions for these electronics that I can "fit"? Should I be looking for "all in one" units and if so, does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Here is a thread I had on this a while back. I ended up using the method in Post #13 and I like it very well. The mount is a RAM-111U and is available at BOE Marine. I like the Lowrance HDS7 and you can add all kinds of stuff to it. Radar, NMEA2K Smartcraft Data (w/MercMonitor), Sonar, HD Sonar, etc.

The unit pictures in Post#13 is an HDS 8 so mine is a little smaller.

Does your model have internal gps antenna or external?

I choose Raymarine all in one. Less clutter works great. And.....If the company does an update its free. Download and plunk in your machine. Great W/ service and If you mess up wireing one call and they help. 800 Number

I agree that Ray Unit is nice. A friend has one on his 38DA. The problem we have is there is no room to mount something of that size reasonably.

Go with Garmin. I have used Raytheon, Furuno NavNetv2, Raymarine E-120, Nobeltec and Garmin is my approved solution.

Can go into details if interested, but those touchscreen Garmins in my mind are unbeatable. Boated with all those combos for 6 years.

Get GARMIN

Internal and it works quite well. Picks up fine under the slip. A friend has one flush mounted in his 260 and it even works fine that way.
Do you have to get the "M" series for the radar to interface?

Do you have a recommendation for an "all in one" unit including radar taht won't brake the bank?

I accidentally ordered some FLIR M625s for the boats.

On my 32 Regualtor the 5212s I have are great, but my brother just got a 34 Regulator and put 7215 on it. Wow. So, I want to get those 7 series on the 32 and will get a bigger picture for the satellite and maybe the same will be with this FLIR.

So, going to sell the 5212s and was told my dock neighbor might want to buy them for his CABO. If he doesn't, will let you know. Will keep the radar

does boe sell garmin?

i see garmin now has a 5215, dont know much of this stuff as in the captain takes care of all this and i just use it. so, think you can find some older 5212 out there--as be me who has a few now for sale. will find out what we got them for. will also tell you the 7xxx price we are paying.

I have a GMR41 Garmin radar with a Garmin chartplotter, all-in-one unit. Using the Garmin marine network you can plug in all kinds of stuff and get it all to appear on one screen. Currently I just have the GPS and radar (and can split screen GPS/radar or overlay radar on the GPS page). Very customizable. I'd like to get a sonar unit (GSD22, GSD21) and fuel system (GFS10) unt, among other things.

But you're right, the dash isn't very accomodating. I think my screen is too big for my boat, mounted where the compass originally went. Makes it somewhat harder to see out the front, when I have the front panels installed. Otherwise, it's fine as I haven't ever used the seat without the bolster while underway.

I think it depends on what you consider breaking the bank.

All the smaller Chartplotters are going to be available as is with add ons such as radar etc. The Chartplotter is probably going to run you around $1K give or take because you will want one with a decent size screen, I would imangine, if you are running radar.

To add radar there are several options with most manufacturers.

Thanks...I think:huh: If I am going to spend a couple thou I would rather have new.

I'm sorta leaning towards the 5008. I would like to see one in person.

My dealer did the install prior to delivery, but I would check with Jim at BOE. He should be able to get you started. Let me know if you need more detailed photos.

I like that. Where and how much? I will be installing it my self.

No offense at all intended to MGD's install, it looks great but I avoided that placement due to feedback that Tonka Boater gave on Post #4 in the thread I had going http://clubsearay.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29871

I love to stand up while driving and did not want to have to sit down to see the screen or worry about the steering wheel blocking parts of the screen. Not to mention i would have had to relocate the VHF Radio.

Not sure how you like to drive but it is somethng to consider.
