I have a model 4ESZ ser# 480578 I have the unit out of the boat to fix some oil leaks and do some sanding and painting. I want to change the timing belt as well. Has anyone ever done this? I haven't attempted to remove the old 1, yet :) Looking for how to advise before I start. Thanks Nicky I left out the most important part This is a 4 kw Kohler generator

I have this. I was hoping to find someone that has changed the belt. Not real sure how to pin (secure) the cam shaft and crank while I make the switch. There doesn't seem to be any kind of tension adjustment on this belt, unless the water pump has slots on the mounting plate. Is it necessary to remove the fly wheel? this is the kind of information I'm fishing for.

All work is complete, new O ring in oil pump cover, new gasket and plate in crankcase vent cover. Replaced timing belt and made a new pan. Good to go. Learned a lot about the Kohler 4kw generator. I was having trouble with the motor running inconsistent (hunting) when not under a load. Put new plugs in and this seems to help. Probably 1st time they have ever been changed. Wont know for sure till we go on the water, only ran it for a few minutes.
