Help me identify something near my engine.

I was cleaning out my ski locker and noticed the water coming into the rear bilge under the gas tank and through some tape looking crap (not sure what that is..) Anyway... also saw a part on the bottom.

What is the black cylinder thing that is attached via a metal ring? Its just loose in there, only attached by the ring. Between the front of the engine and the tank?

Just to be clear.. .I am a newbie and I dont know what a lot of things look like. So any education is appreciated. Don't worry about talking down to me. haha.

Ok, ya, that does make sense. I just got a little freaked out when I found a loose thing just sitting there.

same thing happened to me -- had to ask the dealer -- it's a spare plug like mtnandy indicated
