A friend had the unfortunate experience of having his velvet drive equipped boat knocked out of gear at 3500rpm while on plane.......both trannys are now locked in forward, even though the shift lever will move to neutral and reverse.....there was a thread on here not long ago about this same thing happening - try as I will, I just cant find it...the marina is telling him they need to come out and go to a tranny shop.....feel free to comment here too - are the transmissions likely trashed? He does not think they were jammed back into gear at 3500rpm, but is not 100% sure as it happened so fast....

Not an answer but a question relating to putting engine to no load at high RPM.
We have a standard transmission in one SUV with cruise control. If you push the clutch in at high RPM the RPM drops to idle speed. Has any one ever seen a system similar on a boat? Guess it would be like a kill switch on an outboard.
