I have a 2005 390 DA that came with an all chain anchor rode. Would anyone know what size the chain would be?

I am ordering chain markers that come in 3 sizes: 5/16, 3/8 or 1/2".

Half Inch would be true overkill

Your rode will be either 5/16 or 3/8. Trouble is that the link length can vary and the inserts will not fit on 3/8 chain correctly but would another.

You should measure the link as follows:

Overall Length
Inside length
Overall Width
Inside width

In each case 1/2 the difference will be the chain diameter. From these measurements you can calculate the open area between links.

With these facts discuss the specs with the insert maker or their distributor.

take a look on your winch
there should be stamped size of chain what fits your winch
if you use wrong size it will jam in winch

Go to the service section of the Searay website and download the parts manual for you boat. It's a big PDF file.

I downloaded it, (it's nice to dream big) on page 5 item number 42 is the anchor rode. On page 6 there are two choices, all chain or rope with a short chain. All chain came with grade 40 galvanized 5/16" chain, 200 feet long.

My chain is now painted every ten feet w/ a red / white / blue pattern.

The inner color indexes red - white - blue every twenty feet.

The two outer colors are identical. Those index to the next color after the inner color indexes from blue back to red.

My usage of this system has worked very well, even at night.
