Hello everyone

I've joined this forum because I'm looking at a boat which I think used to be made for Sea Ray under licence, and is still sold, rebadged, by a company called Rae-Line in New Zealand.

It's called the Rae line E series 180, and I think it is essentially the same as a model Sea Ray used to sell.

Could anyone knowledgeable have a look at the link below and tell me whether this is basically an old Sea Ray design? If so, this forum will be very useful as there doesn't seem to be a Rae-line forum in existence!

Thanks for any advice!

JB...can't help with your question, but welcome to the site!

Thanks! I had a look at the Sea Ray site and it's not a current model, but this New Zealand company definitely used to make Sea Ray, I'm reckoning its an old hull shape with a new fit out.

I'm going to look at the boat on Saturday so will ask some questions then.

Looks like it may be based on the Bayliner 180 which is the part of the same group of boating lines that sea ray is a part of.

I believe Bayliner owners have a similar forum as CSR you might want to try to float this link by those guys.

Good luck my Friend!

Can't help you much with your question, but Welcome Aboard

Thanks guys - I've looked at the 180 as we have them here in Oz too - its longer than the 180 by a little bit.

I'll ask the dealer this weekend and let you know!

Wow! OK - I hadn't noticed that page before.

"In 1998, through Peter’s ties in the US and New Zealand’s & Australia’s Sea Ray dealer Sports Marine, Rae Line was approached by boat building giant Sea Ray to manufacture two models of Sea Rays sport boat range, then known as the 180BR and 180OB."..........................

"In March 2006, the boat building contract with Sea Ray was reviewed and it was decided for the expansion of both companies that Rae Line would re-brand and re-market its Sea Ray boats as Rae Line, although Rae Line still work closely with Sea Ray sharing ideas, utilising Sea Rays molds and components,"

So the question is - is there an equivalent boat in the Sea Ray range to the Rae Line 180, so that I could ask owners about their experiences? Looking at the Sea Ray website, it doesn't seem to be a current model.

Excellent work so far detectives! :D

Hi JB,

I'm up in Sydney, and previous to my 2009 Sundeck 230, I purchased a new 2005 Sea Ray 180LE which was made by Rae Line. Was happy with it, so happy I wanted more, so upgraded to the 230 which I trailer around.
