Hello From Key West, FL 4/16-17/2010

Bragging! - No, was there 2 weeks ago, and will be taking the boat there around June 10th (leaving here on June 4th). We'll be there, and going to the Dry Tortugas, for about 10 days or until we're tired of it, then begin making our way back home. Looking for any advice you have!

John

I was there in February for Put-in-Bay days at Sloppy Joes. Would love to take my boat there when I retire in Florida. (with a bigger boat). Say Hi to Pete and Wayne at Sloppies and tell them we can't wait for Key West Days on Put-in-Bay when they will be on the KW of the North Coast.

Tortugas are cool but more than 2 or 3 days and you'll long for the noise at Duvall.

What a cool trip. How long does it take you to run down in your "company vehicle"?

10 days in the Tortugas?
Water maker?
deck freezers?
extra barge of fuel?
Read the fish and game rules closely. They change all the time out there.

I wrote that poorly. About 10 days in the Keys. I'm planning on spending 2 or 3 nights in the Dry Tortugas. We'll float, snorkle, fish (if permitted), and if there's any wind, kitesurf - what a great way to take a tour! We'll use the dinghy to explore. The boat probably won't move once we get set.

Not enough food, water, or gas for much more than that.

Sorry, did not intend to mislead, but I flew down to the Keys. It will be quit some time before I make a boat trip to the Keys, but it is in my bucket list.

If I did have any advice to give it would be to check about anchoring, before going to some locations. From what I have heard anchoring is prohibited in some areas do to the coral. I have not checked, but when the day comes that I am planning a trip I will then check.

I did notice that compared to last year there appeared to be many more boats moored out in the harbor, just off the main marina, tour boating area, even up off of US 1 where Publix's and Abertson's groceries are located.

Prices seemed higher also, the tour train is $29.00 a person, not I did not take it, saw scooter rentals for $25.00 from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

So John have a great time when you go.
