Hello All,

From SW Michigan!

I have a 250 Cuddy that is used for diving the Great Lakes. The boat has a 7.4l Mercruiser which runs great. The issue I have is when going to start the boat, you turn the key all the power seems to go off (fishfinder, stereo, GPS) you hear a click and nothing. Upon releasing the key all devices return to normal or start back up.
It seems that moving the throttle forward more resolves the issue. It just seems to me that I have to have the throttle too far advanced when starting. So when the motor fires I immediately have to reduce the throttle.

My batteries are old. About 3 yrs. I plan on replacing them probably for the next season. I am thinking that the issue lies with the ignition switch or the neutral safety.

Anyone else deal with this? Where do I start?

Thanks,
Vince

i had this issue on my Malibu ski boat, and it turned out to be an adjustment on the linkage. the engine thought that the boat was not truely in Neutral, so the neutral safety switch would engage. adjusting the linkage corrected the problem

I've got the same boat and had the same problem. Mine turned out to be a bad ground cable from starting battery. Also check ignition timing. Good Luck!
