Hello and Alarm question

Hello club members. I just registered and are new to this forum and thus appreciate any tips. I just puchased a 2007 290 Sundancer with T-260. I spent last night in the boat and heard a loud alarm which lasted about 30 seconds that seemed to come from within the cabin (panel area). This again happened 7 hours later. Again all engines were off and generator was running fine. The smart system had nothing reported under heading alarm history. Also, it was not the CO2 sensor. After another 5 hours again the alarm but this time the engines were running. Any ideas? Much appreciated.

Might be the high water alarm. Same thing happened to me...The bilge under the floor was full.
Let me know if that was it.
BTW..nice boat!

How did your bilge get full? I do get some water in there after riding through heavy seas. Not sure how it comes in. Also, I get water in the space under the swim platform. Seems like after rain, but not always. I would pump out about 10 seconds worth from the bilge about every few weeks. My water level rarely made it through the limber holes in the stringers under the engines. It was usually in that center well.

That bilge serves the sinks and bathroom gray water. My pump was not working. I have learned that you are better off "overusing" the system rather than not using it.

I have a couple of questions:
Which bilge serves the sinks and bathroom gray water?
Are you saying your sump pump was not working for your gray water from the sinks or your bilge pump stopped working?
Which system are you saying you are better off overusing, the sump pump or bilge pump?

Mike,

First of all, you and Groucho have very nice boats. Both of you will recognize the pic below. :)

As for Allen's question, the only alarm I have had go off in the cabin has been the C02 Alarm.

As for your bilge question I was cleaning mine yesterday. Under the cabin floor, right in front of the door for the head, you have two bilge systems side by side. (I did not realize this until yesterday). One is the sump for the sink & shower. It is housed in what looks like a plastic shoe box. The other is a bilge pump right behind the box. I would imagine that pump may have an alarm. I did not notice as I was not looking. The sump pump should be used a lot and cleaned a lot!! I found that plastic box and "fence" filter to be very dirty. From now on I will flush & clean that system often. I was checking it as I was told this would happen by the MM delivery guy. I was surprised at how right he was after one summer of use.

You may have known all of this but I had to post anyway and tell you guys what nice boats you have.

Thanks for the clarification. I had fun cleaning out the sump of all the coffee grinds the Admiral dumped down the sink, like we do at home. She got the message when I had to clean out cold slaw the second time. I agree, it needs to be checked frequently because even hair, soap scum, and lint clog that screen.

The only alarm I've had go off, more than once is the CO detector. It is very sensative and that's a good thing.

I've never had enough water in the bilge to trigger the high water alarm. It will be triggered if that pump you see just aft of the sump pump turns on.

Allansray, press and hold the test button on the CO detector and see if that was the sound you heard.

Thanks for the clarification HarttoHart. Yes that was what I was speaking of. If the pump doesn't pump, that plastic sump will leak out and fill in the outside area...that in turn sounds the alarm mine was FULL. My problem was almost identical the the original post. It took a few trips to the dealer and some fishing around to finally pin it down.

I must also compliment you on your most excellent choice of boats as well.

Went to the Marina and yep...you guessed it, the pump was not working. I replaced it with a Rule as I was told that the unit installed was of inferior quality. I had about 1 inch of water which was enough to trigger this hidden and noisy alarm. Going on a trip again next week and this time I hope not to wake up all the campers around me. Many thanks.
