Heart Break for yachting history buffs with gonads

That makes me sad.

Looking at the pic, I can't help but wonder how beefy those surface drives had to be to accommodate over 11,000 horsepower, and how big the wheels were.

Here is the listing by Gentry when it was for sale: http://www.gentryeagle.com/

Here is a better link to the history of the boat and when it was dismantled in Ventura: https://www.boatinternational.com/y...older-motor-yacht-gentry-eagle-yacht-scrapped

Video of it in racing trim:

Gentry was in a serious boating accident in 1994 and died in 1998. Apparently he made his money in Hawaiian real estate: http://archives.starbulletin.com/98/01/19/business/story3.html

And a few pictures of the boat in the Ventura harbor and scrapped:

I remember seeing that boat at an off shore boat race held at in Atlantic City New Jersey at Trump Castle, back in the late 1980's. It had a spare propeller on the swim platform that was huge.

I found these pictures of the boat in the yard. It looks like it had both jet steering and the big prop. Someone saved the prop. :D
