We are thinking of stopping by Havre de Grace on the weekend of July 6th. Is that town worth going to? Never been there.... Any good marinas?

Gary-

Havre De Grace is a nice little town and represents as far up the Bay as you can go... next stop Conowingo Dam. The main marina is Tidewater and it is pretty nice: http://www.tidewatermarina.com/marina.ASP.

I'm not sure if they have a pool which may be a requirement with your kids. I know you're going to be in the wimpy part of the Bay for a good while, so as long as you cover all the other spots N.O.B. (north of bridge), then HdG is a worthwhile stop. Of course, a native HdG'er may put it higher on the list.

Looks like the "Great Chesapeake Debate" battle lines are being drawn.... :smt014 Wimpy ????Common' Tim.......... :smt018 :smt043 :smt043 :smt043

Frank... I only mentioned the "wimpy" line because Gary always like to point out how lake-like and serene the Bay is north of the bridge versus down south where there is "big water". He's not wrong by the way... it's all in good fun!

I know, I enjoy the "flatness" of the northern Chesapeake! Guess that makes me a wimp !!!! and proud of it!!!!!!

I have foot in each camp as we split our cruising up about 50-50 above and below the bridge. In defense of us wimps N.O.B – that area around Love Point can get particularly snotty at times.

it's ok to be a wimpster...

Where are the good spots to hit to go tubing and skiing? I assume the Sasafrass River is one... any others?

Gary-
The good spots for skiing and tubing (that I know of) are:
- Corsica River off of the Chester River
- Langford Creek off of the Chester River
- Swan Creek (where Haven Harbor is in Rock Hall), it goes back further than you think!
- Tavern Creek (next one up from Swan Creek)- tricky entrance but I assume you're skiing off an inflatable... great spot because no one ever goes back there... it has 5' - 6' of water
- Fairlee Creek (during the week), the entrance alone is worth the trip!
- Still Pond Creek (the "inside")
- Still Pond Creek's baby sister Churn Creek (which you can only get to in a small craft, but it is AWESOME skiing because NO ONE is back there!
- Sassafras as you mention, but can be a busy place and there is a 6 MPH zone.
- Bush River... watch for live rounds from Aberdeen Proving grounds though!
- and I'm sure there's a bunch of places on the Middle River as well, but I don't make it over that way much...

Doe the sea nettles (jellyfish) get up that far North in the Bay? I know that any day now our tubing and other watersports will come to an end for the next three months as those darned creatures invade. :smt089

Sea Nettles WILL get to Chester River and Swan Creek... usually by mid-July
They will PROBABLY get to Fairlee by mid August
They will RARELY (almost NEVER) get to Still Pond and points North. That's part of the benefits of wimpiness!
