Anyone ever been there? Looking to do a late October trip somewhere I can take the kids apple picking... Looks like there's a farm about 15 mins from Havastraw Marina..

Anyone ever done something similar before? Anywhere else you recommend?

I feel like there are a few of you from this area that come down to the island for the air show, fireworks etc in zachs bay... How long does this ride take? I'm figuring about 3 and half hours...

Is there somewhere closer I can go?

Any input would be appreciated...

That was our marina for a while when we lived in New York. Very nice Marina. Big, sprawling, in very good condition generally except the restrooms. Pool for the kids friendly staff at least on the weekends shortstaffed during the week. Nice restaurant.

Be sure to cross the bay and anchor out at Half Moon Bay, popular shallow spot. And cruise upriver at least past West Point academy, the river is breathtaking. Go just a bit further to Newburgh for an excellent selection of dock & dine restaurants.

And there are about a million reasons to keep going north and not turn back.

Haverstraw is a big marina and will have room for you. I was there for years before I moved around the corner. The pool will be closed in Oct. The restaurant will be open.
As far as apple picking, none of the farms are within walking distance, so you need to plan on getting a taxi.

Duryea Farms
101 Ackertown Road
Chestnut Ridge, Rockland County, NY

Dr. Davies Farm
306 Route 304
Congers, Rockland County, NY
845-268-7020

The Orchards of Concklin
2 South Mountain Road
Pomona, Rockland County, NY
845-354-0369

Tice Farms (by far the biggest with a small mall and restaurant)
Chestnut Ridge Road
Montvale, NJ.

Have fun

Appreciate the response.. Wish I had the time to take off and go on a Hudson adventure...

Rich... Thanks for the list... That's awesome...

Taxi or Uber would be fine... Looks like Dr Davies is the closest... Have you been to any of the ones your listed?

I've lived here 60 years and have only been to Tice's farm. Passed by the others. Davies is the closest and a trun apple picking experience as they will give you poles to pick the apples higher up in the trees.

Enjoy

Thanks Rich....

Your bio says you keep your boat at MYC... Montauk Yacht Club?

What kind of apples can you pick in late October that far north? Even down here they are picked over by mid October.

Yeah we're leaning towards benign of October now... Or maybe right after Columbus Day
