Hauled the boat out Monday morning to have the bottom paint redone and some maintenance work done. I'm having the lift mechanicals touched up, saltwater zincs removed and magnesium anodes put on, spare wheels put on, and cutlass bearings & running gear checked.

I had the boat hauled in FL to be waxed and bottom cleaned and to our surprise lost some paint when it was being pressure washed. We believe we had a bad batch of paint. The bottom wasn't very old so our boatyard (homeport) is standing behind their work and taking care of it no questions asked. I appreciated the no hassle approach so kudos to GTB. That is how you take care of customers and get repeat business.

The bare area was just on one side so I'm not real sure what might have stripped the paint off.

after they did some blasting around the shafts & struts... no dings or bent blades visible but I just had my spares scanned and reconditioned so we'll put them on so we know for sure that we have good wheels on the boat.

This is a normal distance between prop and strut

This is not. Shaft has moved 1/2 to 3/4 inch. When we made the trip back home from Florida in May, we had a log strike which I believe caused the shaft to "relocate". I was seeing some shavings under the starboard coupler. They'll unbolt the coupler, re-position and re-key the shaft after they check to make sure its still true. Otherwise, cutlass bearings, struts, rudder posts all look good.

...as a good buddy once told me, "nothing a little money can't fix". of course he and I have always had a differing opinion of what "little" means.

Interesting. Nice catch on the prop shaft issue. That salt water is sure tough on the hydraulic platform supports that hang in or near the water. Saw a 'Georgia' boat that came into the marina at Lake Superior that had chunks corroding off the supports...the new owner was assured the boat had "never seen saltwater"... (OF COURSE NOT, BOATS CAN'T SEE!!!)

Out of curiosity, anyone know what kind of pad or seal the rudders and struts use where they're bolted together inside and outside? I had what looked like some caulking or sealant hanging loose underneath from where the rudder plate meets the hull. A mechanic said it was loose sealant but there was a seal sandwiched in there so not to worry. I'm not talking about packing.

Tim, I did a haul last year and had a leak at the same spot where the hull fairs for the shaft. The yard's fiberglass guy told me he sees problems in this area across lots of hulls because it's difficult to get this place perfect during manufacturing according to him. I was just under warranty so Sea Ray paid to have both sides re-glassed.
