A Soldier, his Dog…. and Delta Airlines

Delta Baggage Handlers, recorded at DFW International Airport.

As you watch the video, notice the number of people watching from inside the terminal. Most people have no idea Delta does this.

This soldier was a K9 soldier with a dog trained to find IED's. Yes, the second small coffin is the soldiers partner. This is a soldier and his dog who died for us. And Hats off to Delta !!

Thanks for sharing. A reminder of the daily sacrifice made that allows me to post this. Rest in peace soldier, we will take it from here.

I'm trying to come up with what to say to that and actually having a hard time doing so. That definitely brought a tear or 2. So I'm just going to say that's just amazing and yes hats off to delta airlines for doing what they did for that soldier and his partner! Thanks for sharing Brit

Wow - gave me the chills - really hits home when you see something like this - God Bless all our service people

Bravo Delta.
Thanks for posting this.

I wasn't going to say it but it's actually bothering me. Why isn't the dogs casket wrapped in our flag?

Good point, I agree, he gave his all too-:( I expect there's some silly rule somewhere that states why not. Brings it all home when you see things like this, which apparently Delta's Honor Guard, unfortunately, have to perform several times a week. Makes me so sad. Freedom is very far from free. Heartfelt thanks to all our veterans, past and present, for their service.

Great to see the ceremony was well planned. They must have practiced this many times for such an occasion. Thanks to Delta for spending the money and resource to make this a memorable and respected event.

Thanks to all the families that gave their loved ones for our way of life and to the fallen (both human and beast) who are an inspiration to continue that way of life.

Britlady, thanks for posting, and thanks to who have served and their families.

About 20 years ago, I was on a business trip and was seated next to a young female soldier in her full dress uniform. She tells me that she is escorting the recently released remains of her uncle that she never knew who died in Viet Nam. Before we landed a flight attendant made an announcement that the plane will be met by official escorting vehicles on the taxi way and not to be alarmed. She then asked that everyone please understand that their baggage might be slightly delayed because the remains will be the first to be unloaded.

I'll never forget how quiet, solemn, and courteously all the passengers were as most just sat in their seats a watched respectfully as the flag draped coffin was off-loaded.

At least this one Viet Nam Vet was welcomed home.

Thanks for sharing, it was great to see. MSMBC should show, that America does have great companies.

Thank you for sharing this Brenda. I'll share that I was waiting at the gate recently to board a Delta flight and looked out of the terminal and noticed a military casket being loaded onto the plane. There was not the grand ceremony in your video, but probably because we were departing? Once on board and after the door closed, the pilot came over the speaker to inform us that we had the distinct honor of completing the final mission for (name and rank escapes me) who we were taking home to his family for eternal rest. The pilot then asked for a moment of silence and then came back on and said please thank (name) for making the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom. The entire plane began applauding and I assure you there was not a dry eye on board.....

I served 27 years, went to war three times, and for the grace of God, luck, or whatever absolute blessing of time and place, I never sustained anything more than some near misses. When a mortar round lands 10 yards away and nothing happens to you have no idea of the relief. When you run in a convoy or fly from FOB to FOB...you just hold your breathe sometimes and when you stop worrying, you've been there too long. When sirens go off, you just wait for the sounds and hope it passes.

All that said, the Soldiers and dogs that clear paths or run routes...I literally cannot give them enough credit for their bravery and what risk they take every day...every day! They do things that make me feel like a coward sometimes...humbling, beyond humbling. Bless them, thank them, and please just don't forget them...if you think you've seen something that brings a tear down your cheek...go to a VA hospital and volunteer for just a few hours. You'll never be the same...

Thank you Delta for doing the right thing...as do many others...I thank them as well.

Thank you for your service! I have already passed on this video to others as it is a great tribute to the American spirit. BTW, I wasn't in tears because of the video, it must be the pollen...
