The the adhesive of the rubber (EPDM?) seal on the bilge hatch of my 1997 330DA has failed. After sitting in storage for a season with the hatch open, I found the seal laying on the motors. The adhesive appeared to be a double sided film adhesive that left a gooey/slimy mess. I was able to clean that all off both the hatch and the rubber seal. So the question is, what kind of adhesive is best suited for this application...rubber seal to fiberglass hatch? The marina suggested 3M spray adhesive but that would require all kinds of masking to prevent damage from overspray. There's a number of double sided tapes out there, but I have no idea how suitable they are to this application. My preference would be just a new seal but I can't seem to find the correct size and Sea Ray doesn't have the material either. The part is a "D" shape seal. The Sea Ray part list specifies it as 1.75" wide and I measure about 23' long. Part #704486. Anyone have any experience with this?

If the seal is in good shape, go to an auto parts store or online and order 3M weather stripping or trim adhesive in a tube.
Basically the same yellow 3M as the spray adhesive, but less mess and black

3M™ Super Weatherstrip Adhesive Black, 5 oz Tube 08008
3M™ General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984

Thanks...that product was recommended but I wasn't sure about this application.

That part number has been superceded (your dealer should have known this) to #1396142. There's currently 164' in stock at Sea Ray.

Yes, we went through that maze. The dealer ordered based on product showing "in stock". Sea Ray does not have that superseded product in stock.
The numbers that SR shows in their dealer tool aren't always perfectly accurate, but it's strange that it's that far off. I've never seen it that far off, before. Well, at least you have the newer part number, now - although that isn't always helpful outside of the SR network. SR should be able to provide the manufacturer.

Another option is to check a place like McMaster Carr to see if you can something comparable. A high-density, closed-cell foam should do it. Just get close - it doesn't have to 100% exact in size.

Would this work:

Just an FYI, the stuff I mentioned now shows 139 feet remaining. So it's being actively updated. It's also the same stuff used on brand new boats. Meaning, if it's true that there really isn't any at Sea Ray, there will be more of it available eventually.

3m yellow fixes stuff nothing else can touch. patches on hypalon tubes for instance. I went literally years chasing a leak around a rub point from the PO harness in the sling, and eventually used the trim adhesive. ZERO leaks from that spot since the application, and wait a day.

OK...I'll revisit this with the dealer. Thank you.
