Hatch air question

I'm hoping someone with a hatch A/C can answer a few questions. I'm looking at a couple Ebay specials and noticed that most are missing the bag thingy that goes over the hatch. Is this necessary?

Also, some have a "power cord" included. I would have assumed that a power cord is usually attached to most electric appliances and is standard fare, but I guess that's what I get for assuming. What am I missing?

Thanks!

The "bag thingy" is necessary. It seals the a/c into the hatch. Keeps the cold air in and rain out. The power cord is not attached an can be removed from the unit, therefore gets lost.

The hatch a/c cover is a myst in my opinion. Besides loosing your cold air and letting humidity in the cabin, your a/c will be useless on a rainy days (this is when you'd need the a/c at most). Also, don't underestimate the need for air deflector. The unit will blow cold air right at the v-berth, not sure you'd like that all night long. You might get sick too. The cord, is nothing. Just get one from any hardware store. So, when you get your hatch a/c, make sure you get cover and deflector.

Be careful and check the return policy of the seller. We bought a used one. Guy told us we didnt need the bag and it worked fine. He had no return/satisfaction policy and when we got it, it did run but had a checklist of things wrong with it. The bag is $150 and needed! Think of the bugs coming in at night when you turn on the lights! Anyway, he had to refund our money. Think that is an ebay thing. BUT...you are responsible for return shipping. Was $120 for us to send back one way because of the weight and where we purchased it from. Called ebay and they told us we were responsible for return shipping. Said it was just like a Wal-Mart purchase: ie, you gotta get your goods back to them. Which I don't agree with. But none the less...be careful. We returned ours and bought another from a company that was selling units that were new but had been returned to stores. Apparently the stores send them in to the factory to get "checked out" and then resold to like liquidators. Good luck!
