Has anyone had any success with Reman 5.7L/350, 330HP Vortec Marine Base Engine.

You can get a certified pre-owned from mercury with a warranty drop in for pretty cheap.
I got a drop in 357ci alpha (275hp, the bravo has 325hp) for what I was getting quoted for a long block reman. They have tons of different models in their CPO line.

AFD, I was actually looking at the Reman small block $2600 delivered and my mechanic was going to convert parts over to it from the old engine and my total cost was going to be around $5000. I thought that was a fair price,if the Reman had a good quality record?? Looks like the Mercury certified are around 8500 and up.

dont forget about the manifolds plus you can keep everything as a spare part from your old engine or you can sell to make up the cost of some things and not have an old distributer, plugs, wires, coil, cap, rotor, fuel rails, injectors, fuel pump, iat sensor, throtttle body ann your sensors, all the little things that go wrong would be new and warrantied.

i got mine for $5600+ tax so $5880. install is going to be another thousand or so +/-

it was the last day mercury was running a sale on their CPO's and i bought it almost 2 months ago so its been sitting in a crate at the shop waiting. i can give you a review in a little more than a month when it goes in and gets splashed.

Who are you buying the reman from? From your post, it sounds as though you might think that "reman" is the company you are buying the engine from? Reman = Remanufactured. Also, by "small" block, do you mean "short" block?

Dennis, I did mean short block. The engines I saw were on Ebay from : ATP engines, Centerstate engines, Engines Direct and TopCat engines. These are the 4 that I saw on Ebay. Do you have a recommendation? Prices were $2195 to $2495.

That makes allot of sense. Who did you buy from? Don't know how to go about checking on Mercury engines. My engine now is ENGINE # OM323553 # 4M42037PS

Mercruiser---5.0 Bravo MPI 305 CID

My mechanic has the boat out of the water. There is a blockage most likely around the freeze plugs. He has not gotten to the stage of pulling the freeze plugs because of weather. I have just about replaced everything already. He will have to pull engine out of the boat to pull the freeze plugs and take a look.

I cannot express enough shop at michiganmotorz.com

I have not hear of those guys, before. That's not say that they won't offer a good product - I just have not heard of, nor dealt with, them before. Obviously, given where I work, we use a lot of Mercruiser reman's and new engines. However, we have dealt with Michigan Motorz many, many times and we've had good experiences with them. Although less "dealings" with them, PerfProTech has also been good. Again, those other guys might be just fine - I just don't have any experience with them to offer advice one way or the other. The price seems to be about in line with what I would expect from a non-merc brand (not to say that it's a bad thing).

If you're not personally doing the swap over of all the components, you may want to nail down some pricing with your mechanic. Compare what he is going to charge to pull all the components off, clean them, address any parts that are "due" for replacement, and then refit them to the new block. You might find that the price difference isn't as much as you might think.

Also... now would be a good time to think about adding fresh water cooling.

FYI... you have two different engines that you are referencing in your signature/discussion. 5.0L = 305ci, 5.7L=350ci. I ran your engine serial number that you posted - what you wrote in post #7 is correct. You have a 5.0L MPI (305ci).

I also saw that there is still an outstanding bulletin on your engine - at least in regards to what is recorded in Merc's dealer tools. If a Merc dealer did fix it, it was never recorded. On some engines, the orange (charging) wire from the alternator was routed in such a way that it would chafe/wear. At this point, it obviously doesn't matter - but be sure to inspect the wire and repair it if needed. You may never have gotten notice of this since it appears the letters that were mailed out went to the original owner in April and May of 2006. If you bought this boat privately (or at least not through a Merc dealer), then that would explain why your name is not listed as the current owner as it never would have been changed.

I just replaced one of my engines with a new short block from marine power cost was 3095 . It came with all tins, water pump, and harmonic balancer. Installed my manifold , ingnition etc. Runs great .
My total cost was 3095 plus shiping of about 250.
