Last year my 2007 sea ray 310 sank while in a covered sloip and hooked up to shore power. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else.

I can't remember what make this one was. :smt021

It took us all day to refloat it. His live bait well hose came off. :wow:

In 1995 I had a 1992 330 sink at the dock the day after Christmas in 13 degree weather. Not a pleasant experience. The mechanic that winterized the boat forgot to replace the drain plug in the wet exhaust muffler. Over time with the boat moving back and forth in the slip it caused a suction that stared water flowing . Over time and the long cold weather the pumps were over whelmed to the point that they failed. When I got there the boat was completely under water and the dock lines were as tight as piano strings.

We had one sink last year at our marina....no heat in the ER. The glass in the strainer broke and flooded the boat in about 5' of water. Water filled the ER and cabin. Owner bought it back after it was totalled and fixed everything.

This is a scary thought as a boat gets older. Lots of plumbing that can fail and cause a sinking. And let's face it most of us don't replace things until they break. We do not leave the charger on so the bilge pumps/batteries would be on their own for up to a week between visits. Yes closing seacocks would lower the risks but again who actually does it. And the risk of forgetting to open them on the next cruise.

Close the seacocks and place a sign on your dash to remind yourself.

Tom, Some people think thats too much of a hassle. :smt021
I close mine when I'm not there.

Closing the seacocks would have prevented this?

I know a lot of owners that leave the AC on when gone for the week, in dehumdifier mode. This is a risk if a hose leaks.

Had a friend with an older carver, hose clamp came loose, the AC pump filled up the boat. He came down to see just the top of his radar arch in the slip.

I am in 140' of water so I we always tell each other if my lines are tight, cut them.

if my lines are tight, cut them.
Are you for real with that statement ??. :wow:

Note to self, Never buy a boat from you.

For the love of God, Why? Pretty simple fix to avoid a disastrous problem.

Do you keep your refrigerator running during the week?

All AC and DC breakers are turned off on our boat when we go home at the end of the weekend with the exception of the Battery Charger, AC Refrigerator, and Microwave. The microwave circuit is left on so we know if the power has been out while we were gone.
