Hello,

I have twin 4.3 mercs. Just had the front crankshaft seal replaced. Now I notice that the pulley with the harmonic balancer is wobbling slightly. I never really noticed before the fix so I don't know if it's always wobbled.
Is this normal? Or perhaps something did not go back properly?

T

No that is not normal for any engine. Should run straight and true. Do yourself a favor before you run it any more and check that bolts are tight. Then get it fixed or replaced.

Tony,

Have you wiggled the pully with the belt off, or are you relying on a visual while it is running? The combination of light, old paint and dirt can be visually deceptive on a rotating part.

In any event, it should not have been put back like that. The dampener had to come off to do a front seal with the crank in place, so it sounds like it is possibly warranty work for your tech who did the seal.

Hi Henry,
Visual check only. Just got it back yesterday. I will certainly get this back to them. I just was not sure if there is a simple adjustment on the pulley to make it not wobble.
Thanks,
T

Try to tighten the bolt to the crank also see if it is the Harmonic Balancer or the pulley ,the pully has an indent to center it .

Make sure they put that harmonic balancer on correct. If its wobbly it can come apart with some violent force in the engine bay.
