Looking to put a hardwood floor in my boat. As it's a 1988, its a little dated as far as interior is concerned sooooo, any suggestions as to color and type of hardwood would be appreciated. Next question, how difficult do you think this will be, I know someone who has done this in his house and he is willing to oversee this project. If I pull up the existing carpet can it be done in a day?

What size EC?
I replaced the sheet vinyl in the galley area a couple of weeks ago with hardwood, and put a ceramic tile floor in the head.
Could be a one day job, but wasn't for me. I cut outside the boat, nearly every piece was a "cut". Angles, hatches, working in such a tight space all is time consuming. Not like running a wide open room...

Wifey was skeptical at first, but really likes it.

I ended up with Jatoba hardwood, I can take some pics if you like, pm me.

Hey tobnpr
Don't bogart those pix, put em up. I'd love to see them too, if that's OK.

Really tobnpr, I am getting ready to do the same project this summer.
Post up as many pics as you can.
Or PM me with them.
My salon floor plan is very similar to yours.

Thanks
Dan

Here ya go:

I'll add that if pays to measure to check whether adding that extra 1/2" to the floor will prevent the fridge from fitting back into its "hole"... Don't ask me how I know that...

Stoli's, Beefeater and Seagrams! Ummmmm. Getting thirsty.

Nice Job! What's the floor made of? Looks like 3" Cherry (I think you said Jatoba earlier). How did you fasten it down?

Thanks for the pix!

Direct glue. You can do it as a floating floor (like Pergo), but I didn't think that would work so well aboard the boat. I also didn't think nails would work well due to all the pounding and vibration. Fortunately, the wood floor adhesive could be applied over the adhesive used for the vinyl floor that was left when I ripped it up- it would've taken hours and a six-pack to scrape that stuff up...

Great job! I installed a vinyl plank floor (Amtico)
that turned out quite nice. Looking for a trim for the hatch openings. Where did you get the one shown in your photo??
