Harbor Days - Winthrop Harbor

I am now moored with my 340 at Northpoint - L37... I will be there this weekend!
 
I'll get my slip assignment tomorrow I think.... I think I'll be on B or Q dock due to size and power requirements..

Last years Harbor Days was pretty neat. I hope this years is the same!
 
We will not be there this year - drove down by car last year.

We have a new baby (370DA) that needs attention - and my list all has to be done now - or at least I want it all done now!
 
The fireworks were pretty good but beyond that it was pretty lame. Friday night I went over to the restaurant for dinner... Yes it was after 9pm but there were not that many people at the barbecue or listening to the band... Looked like less than 20 people.

Yea, fireworks and boat parade were the only saving graces... and that Skipper buds paid for the band entertainment. The City really screwed the pooch on the event. Sad.
 
Unfortunately the city/village does not have much input on the event, or as much as they want to. Granted the events were far less than spectacular than previous years, and I agree, such a shame. However, considering that the village sees $0.00 in tax revenue or otherwise from the operation of the marina and facilities, what can be expected? The State just needs to relinquish the control over to the village so that things may finally improve down there.

I for one was looking forward to this past weekend, and had my slip ready to go. Unfortunately I ended up with carb problems and had to pull my boat for fear of drifting into another boat while docking (ran rough, and stalled between shifts). So instead I sat on my front porch and enjoyed the fireworks with a tasty adult beverage, as my boat awaited a much needed carb overhaul.
 
I think there is far more than that. The village is doing their own this this weekend in the park - and by the description - looks to be what Harbor Days was last year.

I don't see why they wouldn't want to tap into the revenue that the boaters bring in.

Oh well, needless to say, it will likely be our last year making an effort to go...
