Have a happy and safe Memorial Day everyone! Heartfelt thanks to all our veterans both retired and active for their service to this great country and the rest of the world!

Thank you for serving our country. Our thoughts and prayers go out to our Servicemen and Veterans.

USAF, 1969-1976.

You're very welcome. My thanks and a salute go out to all fellow vets and also to all those currently serving in our armed forces.

Thank you to all of the veterans and services members and their family members for your service and sacrifices, without you our freedoms, way of life and our great nation would not be that "shining beacon of hope in the hill". Thank you all .....................

As an ex service person, 9 years in the Army.....

It is really gratifying to see the way the U.S. treat and respect their service and ex service people. Way above what is experienced in Australia.
The recent trip to Cuba and Panama, I travelled with a friend who served in the Air Force as a Lieutenant the same period I was in the Army. We discussed our experinces, the end of the Vietnam war, we did not wear a uniform off site, we were hated. It took ne nearly 30 years to apply for my service medal, because of the lack of respect here, my friend still has not applied, and I spent the 3 weeks telling him to get it.

At LAX, he said listen to this announcement, it was the Airport Authority announcing that the lounge was open 24 hours for all Service, Ex Service and family 24 hours a day...............w ehave nothing like that.

Memorial Day, in Australia ANZAC Day is about remembering those that gave their life, those that served, those that serve. Those that have ensured those that do and will ensure that we live in this freedom that value so highly and enjoy.

Good on all of you for respecting your Service People and ex Service People. And thank You to all that have served and will serve

Ian, when we lived in the UK it was much the same as you mention it is in OZ. However, I hear that it is somewhat better in the UK than it was. Although, that said IMHO it could be better here too! Did you notice that some 123 people read this post (at the time of writing this one) but only 7 of us posted our thanks to the military.........just shameful! If it was not for the guys and gals in the military some of 'em would not be boating......me included, as probably would not be alive today!

it's amazing I thought the exact same thing as you did BritLady, so many posts on this board have page upon page of posts but on Memorial Day this particular post can only muster single digit responses .................. wow just wow

maybe just maybe everyone is out enjoying the beautiful weather and attending parades and paying their respects in their own personal way and not paying attention to this board, maybe ..............

I really, really do hope you're correct! Although I did notice the numerous other posts about other stuff posted on Memorial Day:)

A bit delayed but we had a great Memorial Day weekend trip where we had a decent group of Sea Rays, good food and friends and a Memorial Day "service" as usual with a member that is passionate about ensuring we all remember that it's not a 3-day weekend, but a time to reflect about those lost serving our country. Here are a few pictures from the same location where we have our annual Circle Cruise.
