Happy Birthday to Me.....

Happy Birthday!

With that beautiful anchor, I would redo the entire ground tackle. All new chain and a Mantus swivel. hate to lose it, but better yet, you want to be confident it'll work when you need it

Well, tomorrow I Join the 60 and over year old club so a SS anchor for the 506 seemed like a great Birthday gift to buy myself. I actually ran across an opportunity to horse trade for a second hand Lewmar 44lb plow so now it is on the boat. She is a beauty!
I did however uncover a serious issue that had really not ever crossed my mind. I have really never yet had occasion to use the anchor on the 506 as we generally boat dock to dock. I paid 20 feet of chain onto the dock to facilitate the anchor replacement and as I was running the chain out with the windlass, I noticed some binding and clunking of the chain as it rounded the capstan. To my disappointment I discovered several links that are heavily corroded! I think I have about 300 feet of chain. I need to lay it all out on the dock and inspect it to see how many sections are damaged to see if I can splice in sections or replace the entire length. I really don't intend to ever use it but still need a reliable anchor and chain in case of emergency. I also like the weight on the bow. I will be installing a section of SS at the anchor for bling factor.

I have a similar anchor (smaller) hanging off my bow. It's a lovely decoration but not practical on our lake. The name of the lake is Table Rock for good reason.:D I am on anchor number 7 over 13 years. For the cost of my stainless, I can buy 10 of the ones I use now.

60? Yer breakin' my heart! That delaminating link is just about to go! Good thing you found it before glub-glub-glub.
