Am I a dying breed? As soon as I get get the water turned on outside in the spring until I shut it off in the fall, I wash my truck and suv in the driveway. Down south I did it year round. Anyway, I was washing the truck this morning and it occurred to me that in the 3 years I've been up here, I don't recall seeing anyone else in my sub that does.

Any of you still hand wash?

Yes I do......bucket, brush, hose and go!

Always hand wash my truck. 1C3668C9-164F-4D94-B68F-C0465F594165.jpeg

I used to but the drive throughs seem to do such a good job and so easy, I just buy the unlimited package and wash a couple of times a week. Now my 2500HD Ram was lifted a bit and the drive through top brush would retract and not tough the top surfaces of the truck. They said the lifted trucks kept breaking the equipment so I cancelled for the Ram and washed by hand. I am on well water on the ranch so with no neighbors to shame me for wasting water I haad no issues. Here in CA, if you live in town and wash your car or water your lawn on the wrong day of the week, you are subject to public caning!

Don't they also have some crazy BS about your car leaking oil in your driveway, or just not yet?

Hand wash and drive through. I like to do a full detail on the cars in the Spring and just before I winterize my truck. IIRC I think I only have one neighbor that washes his as well.

You are not allowed to park a vehicle on unimproved surfaces. In town anyway, you cannot park on lawn or dirt. I assume it has to do somewhat with dripping fluids into the soil but mostly to keep front yards from becoming junk yards. Any more so many communities are just jammed packed with cars, RVs and boats in front yards. The nicer communities have very strict CC&Rs preventing that. In general, I am for less restriction but when it comes to keeping a neighborhood neat and orderly, I am onboard.

Always use the three bucket method. One bucket to clean tires, wheels and wheel wells. One bucket for soap for washing and one bucket to rinse my microfiber wash before it goes back into the soap bucket. I now use an electric pressure washer and an electric leaf blower to speed up the process.

We wash our Infiniti at the car wash. Unlimited package and do it at least weekly, often twice a week. My Beemer gets hand washed in the driveway.

I still wash the SUV in front of the house, no driveway, live in the city. I will occasionally take it to the car wash if I'm feeling lazy. Recently hand polished it as well.

The old man sports car bimmer that sits in the garage has never seen a bucket of water and a brush, I hand wash that with a car wash spray in the bottle and towels.

In the winter I go through the car wash to get salt and grime off of them but when weather is better I hand wash but do it in the garage. My truck is dark blue and washing it out in the sun is a pain. It dries before I can dry it then there are water spots everywhere so it's more work to get those out. But when I go through the car wash my dark blue truck looks just as bad when it's done so it's really a waste of money at that point.

I don’t fit, I have to hand wash. I do get the beast detailed twice a year

I wash my wife’s 2001 Audi TT convertible in the driveway but other cars go to the car wash with unlimited plans.

I wash them all in the driveway. Same as you, I don’t see ANYONE else on my block doing it.

$27.95/mo for unlimited (not more than once per day) wash/wax, rainex, tire dressing, chassis bath, body gloss etc. etc. free vacuums, it looks great and it’s right down the street from the house. I do the towel dry touch ups though because the kids are hurried to keep up with the volume of traffic and leave a few water spots. I never have a dirty truck. I haven’t hand washed since I sold the ‘69 Z-28.
